The Interior Secretary, officially the Secretary of State for the Interior, is the head of the Ministry of the Interior and a cabinet member. The Interior Secretary was originally an appointed position, by appointment by the President. It became an elected position in November 2021 when the Second Constitution of Roscamistan was created. Upon Dean Merritt’s resignation from the Ministry of Finance, all elected ministerial offices mentioned in the Second Constitution became de facto appointed again.

History

The office was established on 22 July 2021, when Fearghas MacLochlainn was made the Minister of the Interior, the precursor position to the Home Secretary.

In the Autumn of 2021, Thomas Jacobs renamed the position Secretary of State for Home Affairs, and its department to the Home Office.

The position was renamed to the Secretary of State for the Interior after the Home Office was renamed to the Ministry of the Interior in October 2022.

November elections

In the first major ministerial elections in Roscamistan, the Home Secretary portfolio was one of the positions up for grabs. With MacLochlainn as the only candidate, he was confirmed in his position as Interior Secretary by 57.1% of the voters.

Modern history

The office was renamed the Secretary of State for the Interior after the Home Office was reverted to the Ministry of the Interior.

President Thomas Jacobs appointed himself to the office on the 10th of January 2023.

Responsibilities

The Interior Secretary is responsible for security and enforcement matters which include;

  • Enforcement of national law
  • Management of the Ministry of the Interior
  • Registration and de-registration of political parties
  • Overseeing the overseas territories
  • Nomination of civilian territorial administrators
