Dean Merritt is an Irish retired micronationalist and active army officer who was the national Finance Secretary and the fourth Prime Minister of Mervustan, until 24 December 2021 when he resigned on health reasons. He retired from the National Army with the rank of Major General, the third highest ranking officer in the Armed Forces, behind Jan Kotoński, who holds the rank of Admiral, and Thomas Jacobs, who holds the five star rank of Marshal of the Republic. He returned to active military service on 24 February 2022 in the wake of the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.
He previously served in the Ministry of Defence as deputy to Defence Secretary David Moore.
Micronational career
First Jacobs and Hanlon Presidencies
Merritt became aware of Roscamistan through Thomas Jacobs. He became the Deputy Defence Secretary, serving under David Moore. Along with Anthony Hanlon and Kayden Conboy, he was a major player in the 17thMayCoup. Though he did not hold a formal high position, he was a de facto leading member of government. He was sacked and excommunicated by Thomas Jacobs upon his return to the presidency. He was out of government from late June 2021 to early November 2021.
Second Jacobs Presidency
He was invited by Thomas Jacobs to become Deputy Prime Minister of Mervustan after the previous office holder, David Moore, ascended to the premiership. He accepted, and was also the first Minister of Home Affairs of Mervustan. After the resignation of Moore, Dean Merritt became the fourth Prime Minister of Mervustan. Nationally, he became Finance Secretary, succeeding Luke O’Reilly. He was to propose his first budget in January 2022, but on 24 December 2021, he retired from Roscami politics over health issues. Barry Fennel replaced him as Finance Secretary, and left the Mervustan premiership vacant. Doros Patusky eventually took over the premiership, albeit in an interim capacity. He returned to active military service on 24 February 2022 in the wake of the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.
Personal life
Merritt has lived his whole life in Mervue, on the outskirts of Galway City, and went to the same primary school as most of the original government ministers. He goes to the same secondary school as former President Anthony Hanlon. He is a 3rd year student.
