The Prime Minister of Atiera is essentially the chairman of the Council of Ministers and head of the Atieran Government just below the King. The office was formed towards the end of June 2020 to which a Prime Minister, Mr. Zachary Yetman was appointed. This was during the short time by which Atiera had an emperor instead of a king. Succeeding Mr. Yetman was one who mostly went by the alias Cornelius. Past the reformation to a kingdom, these prime ministers have been largely forgotten about and the activities of their governments have not been documented.
During a short vote in October 2020, Mr. Yetman was formally replaced. This small election was held to decide between 2 candidates, Chris Ramsay and William Cooper. Having become political rivals at the head of different policies, these candidates would go on to found their own political parties. The ANF and the APU remain as the traditional rivals today. The introduction of Atiera to the Westminster System in early 2021, by which the party which commands the parliament gets to form government, became a motivating sustenance to this political rivalry.
Powers
As the head of the Cabinet, the Prime Minister has the power to create ministries, appoint their ministers, and organize meetings of the Parliament, all in conjunction with the King. Independently, the Prime Minister can call for meetings between the members of his government, the Council of Ministers.
July '21 succession skirmish
The Westminster System fixed that the officeholder of Prime Minister of Atiera is synonymous with the chairmanship of the most powerful political party, until now that has been the ANF. Political parties have the right in accordance with their charters and party policies to establish and appoint their own succession, usually in the form of a Deputy Chairman - for the ANF, also the Deputy Prime Minister. Following the re-affirmation of Isaiah Burdette as chairman of the ANF and thus the party's continued pick for the office of Prime Minister in June, 2021; it was brought to an abrupt end in July the following month, his party members pressuring his resignation with support from across the political parties and from the King himself under the guidance of Party Spokesman and MP Tucker Gladden. At the time there had been no proper appointment to the succession of the chairmanship and so the departing Prime Minister was left to decide upon a successor only after being made aware of his inevitable and sudden departure. For the King, the Prince of Galte, Ramsay and Gladden, already having established their intent for Mr. Gladden's ascension to the office, this posed a problem; as Mr. Burdette was clearly reluctant towards the appointment of Mr. Gladden, openly conteplating on other members before designating Miller to the succession. Ramsay accepted and duly published a letter of resignation in favour of Mr. Gladden, having ruled in the office of Prime Minister for 47 minutes.
