The Parliament of the Democratic Christian Federation of Melite is one of two legislative branches of Melite, responsible for passing laws in the country, the other being the Fgura Regional Council.
Composition
The D.C.F. Parliament holds 16 seats, democratically elected by the citizens of the Republic, with every two MPs selected from a District of Melite, excluding the Socialist Fgura Special Administrative Region. The Parliament is composed of a Speaker and 15 other Members of Parliament. The Speaker is elected by an election between the MPs. When the active population of Melite is less than 5, an election does not happen, with the Seats automatically being filled by the Speaker and four independent members of Parliament. The Speaker mediates parliamentary channels and keeps order in the meetings. The President of the D.C.R. is an ex-officio Member, but may not be the Speaker of the House, unless circumstances do not permit so.
First Parliament of Melite (until December 2021)
The First Parliament of Melite was made up of 5 members of Parliament, all from the NAF, until an election for the full house was called. After the Premier left the micronation and her TT Party was dissolved, the Parliament collapsed, with the President taking the opportunity to call elections for a new 16-seated Parliament, after the new districts were set up.
The Current Parliament of Melite holds 16 seats with every district putting forward two MPs. Citizens of Melite may only run for election in their district, altough they may apply to change districts. Interestingly, the CNP has managed to get itself candidates in all districts, but Birmula, where it went to the Anarchists and the Directionists, which are a part of the coalition government.
