The Christian Nationalist Party of Melite (Maltese: Partit Nazzjonalista Kristjan), commonly abbreviated as PNK (English: CNP), and formerly the C.N.P 11B Party, is the founding and ruling party of the Democratic Christian Federation of Melite, commonly known as Melite. Founded as the the spiritual but non-legal successor of the Potato Party in the former Democratic Communist Republic of 11B, the PNK is the only ruling and represented party in Melite not to be registered with the federal Electoral Commission of Melite.

The PNK is currently in control of the Presidency of Melite and is represented by seven out of the nine governors of the states and territories of Melite, together with five of the nine seats in the Constitutional Convention. The party operates in all states of Melite, except the Fgura SAR and North Zagoria State, where in the latter the PNK is in an electoral and alliance and permanent coalition with the Zagorian regionalist ZA-CNP called the Melitian Christian Parliamentary Alliance.

The current Chairman of the Party is Matthew Vella, elected by party members following the first-ever chairman election on 10 August 2023, following Matthew T.'s resignation the day before[1].

Party History

Potato Party (2019 - September 2021)

The Christian Nationalist Party is the spiritual successor of the communist era Potato Party (Maltese: Partit Patatista), a satiric tongue-in-cheek party that ruled the Democratic Communist Republic of 11B in its mid-life period as the sole legal party. The satiric nature of the party was lost in party to developments in Maltese politics, and after its reformation as the Partit Nazzjonalista Kristjan. (English: Christian Nationalist Party). The Potato Party Logo was a caricaturistic fix of the flag of the Maltese Nationalist Party, with the removal of the letter 'N.', for 'Nazzjonalista' (English: Nationalist) replaced with another 'P', for 'Patatista'. The PP did however retain most of its Maltese inspiration's values.

Christian Nationalist Party (September 2021 - present)

The date of dissolution of the Potato Party is relatively unknown as the party went inactive in the summer of 2021 and was never formally dissolved. However, the beginning of the Christian Nationalist Party in around October 2021 is considered to be the end of the former Potato Party and the start of the current party. It consolidated its status as the Melitian ruling political party in the October 2022 general election, however not alone, but with the support of Melitian Christian Parliamentary Alliance, the electoral alliance of two parties which it is a founder of and leads together with the Christian Nationalist Party of North Zagoria. The Alliance holds eight out of ten seats of the Parliament of Melite. The anthem of the party was Cara al Sol (English: Facing Sunward) until 26 August 2023 where it was replaced in the 3rd Congress by Ave Crux Alba (English: Hail to the White Cross).

Both parties operate independently but in a co-ordination with each other. Both shall also run joint lists in the The incumbent President and Vice-President of Melite come from this alliance.

Party Congresses

The Christian Nationalist Party, since its inception, has held two party congresses in total, the first one in November 2022 and an elaborated second Congress in June 2022.

Second Congress

The Second Party Congress of the Christian Nationalist Party were a series of meetings held for a week between the 17–23 June 2022 in a public Discord venue, where speeches were given as a way of formulating the current state of the party. This was considered the most significant event that generated attention in Melite, anticipating the then-incoming 2022 presidential election.[3][4]

Third Congress

żThe Third Congress was held between 8 to 26 August 2023 on the Discord public platform. This Congress saw the resignation of founder and then-Chairman Matthew T. and the election by member's vote of Matthew Vella as the new Chairman and Jayden Dagsa later appointed Vice-Chairman.
