The Association of South Asian Micronations, abbreviated as ASAM, was a regional intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union of micronations in South Asia. It was established on 25 August 2020, with the aim of promoting peace, harmony and unity among the member nations. The organization was dissolved on 19 September 2023 after months of inactivity and dormancy. A new intermicronational union to replace the association is being considered at the moment.

History

The ASAM was dream project and brainchild of Varuna Sriraya since 2019 but due to less micronations from the region, the plan could not take its actual form until August 2020. It was on 22 August 2020, the leaders of Vishwamitra and the Micronation of the AVR discussed on the potential establishment of the organization. Eventually, on 25 August 2020, the two leaders signed the establishment document of the association and declared its foundation on the official Twitter accounts of the two nations.

Akin to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the chairperson was the most senior of the two recognised leaders of the ASAM, with the office taking precedence over all other political appointments and positions in the organisation. The chair exercised a wide range of powers within the organisation including having direct control over member states and their representatives, with the vast majority of their powers being technical and administrative. The chair was the presiding officer of the Quorum of Members, serving as the speaker for that chamber, and exercising many of the powers usually vested in the speaker of a legislative chamber.

The office of the chairman was established with the foundation of the organization on 25 August 2020 as the "President of the ASAM", however on 12 December, the office of the President was replaced by that of the chairman. The chairman is elected for a term of one year and can re-elected for unlimited number of times. The first Chairman of ASAM was Varuna Sriraya of Vishwamitra, who has been into office since 25 August 2020 and was officially elected on 12 December 2020. He was succeeded by Vishwam Khandelwal who served as the second and final holder of the office.
