The monarchy of Eintrachtia or simply the Eintrachtian monarchy is the form of government in the Kingdom of Eintrachtia where a hereditary monarch reigns as head of state and acts as co-head of government. The current King is John, reigning sice 14 February 2017 and also founder of the country.
Eintrachtia is a constitutional monarchy with an executive monarch, which means the monarch shares executive powers with the chancellor as co-heads of the government. Although the monarch has authority over the government, this power may only be exercised in actions accountable to parliament. The monarch is also commander-in-chief of the Royal Eintrachtian Armed Forces, and has the power to appoint or dismiss chancellors; however, these powers may only be performed in a non-partisan manner and must be accountable to parliament and the people. The monarch is a permanent member of the Senate and parliament, appoints members of the Senate and has the power to dissolve parliament.
The Eintrachtian monarchy was constituted in 2021 and later in 2024 following ratification of the constitution in the said years. Before so, the monarchy traces back to the Penguins State and the Imperial Eintracia, the predecessor states to modern-day Eintrachtia. The Penguinsian monarchy was established in 2017 with the proclamation of the state, Eintrachtia has been a monarchy since. The monarchy is also commonly referred to as "the Crown".
History
Early monarchy (2017-2019)
Since the proclamation of the State of the Penguins, Eintrachtia has always been a monarchy. John, the founder of the country, proclaimed himself head of the Penguins State in 2017, bearing the title "Emperor of the Penguins". During the so-called "imperial era" of Eintrachtia, the monarchy claimed sovereignty over a number of territories around the world, across six continents (Antarctica, Africa, Asia, North America, Europe and Oceania). Some of these territories were properties owned by the royal family, while most other claims were made based on a lack of reason. This subsequently led to the Concordian Reformation in 2021, where a mass withdrawal of claims were instituted by the King. This was met by opposition from nationalistic members of parliament.
Concordian Reformation (2021-2022)
The Concordian Reformation, also known as the Concorde Revolution, was a period where a series of anti-imperialist policies were instituted by the monarchy with opposition from traditionalist members of parliament. The monarchy was met with challenges for the first time since its establishment in 2017. Some right-wing members of parliament, with support from certain left-wing groups attempted a coup d'etat to overthrow the monarchy and planned to install a republic in its place. The reformists, with support from the King, ultimately negotiated with the republicans. A new constitution was to be drafted in 2021, and during the period the empire was renamed the State of Eintrachtia, and later the Constitutional Republic of Eintrachtia, with John maintaining royal powers, and willingly giving up former imperial powers. In late 2022, the "constitutional (crowned) republic" was formally renamed the Kingdom of Eintrachtia.
Kingdom (2022-present)
Eintrachtia is currently a kingdom, made up of constituencies known as provinces, with some retaining ceremonial status as principalities and duchies. The monarchy has a constitutional role to safeguard the rights of the people, and is effectively "King of the People". Still, the King has executive powers within the government, but the powers are only used in safeguarding civil liberties.
