Pax Concordia, commonly known as Concordia and the Conservatives, and previously the Conservative Party, is one of the main political parties in Eintrachtia. It is currently the ruling party after winning the 2021 general election, and is being led by Penguin Ballister, the current chancellor of Eintrachtia. Encompassing ideological factions including liberal conservatism and right-wing populism, the party sits on the centre-right to right-wing of the political spectrum.
The party was founded in 2017 following implementation of the Penguinsian constitution, limiting powers of the monarch and subsequently King John resigned from his role as acting prime minister. Prior to the first elections, two political parties were created, the Conservative Party and the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party was split from the former by more centrist members of the Conservative Party. The Conservative Party, being more royalist, was favoured by the King and was the ruling party for most of Eintrachtia's imperial period. Following the Concordian Reform, the Conservative Party saw a slight decline in popularity due to its affiliation with the empire and nationalists that catered the Ninth of June regime. In 2021, just after the implementation of the new constitution, a democrat was elected chancellor, although the conservatives remained the largest party. In 2024, the conservatives and democrats remerged to form the Democratic People's Party in order to maintain their common values while seeing the rise of the social democrats, the new party was renamed Pax Concordia shortly after.
History
Imperial period (2017-2021)
The party was founded on 1 July 2017 as the Conservative Party for the first ever prime minister general election. It was modelled after a political party of the same name in the United Kingdom. Shortly after its formation, the Democratic Party was separated from the conservatives by more liberal members of the original party. The move had mixed response from the conservatives that remained, with many saying that having multiple parties is essential for democratising the existing parliamentary system, which only had the Conservative Party prior to the separation. The first leader of the party was Penguin Benjamin Ballister, the second penguin to become a member of the House of Ballister, who became the first civil prime minister of the Penguin State.
The Conservative Party lost the general election in 2018, in which democrat leader Penguin Ingles Ballister won by majority. The party re-emerged as the leading party in 2020, with Penguin Sebastian Ballister becoming prime minister. It was during S. Ballister's term that the party initiated several reforms that not only reshaped the image of the party, but also started the Concordian Reformation. The party began to gain popularity by accepting more liberal ideas and incorporation values that were previously considered democrat-exclusive. In addition, the conservative government initiated a parliamentary reform that allowed minor political groups to officially register as political parties in the lower house, ending the three-year long two-party dominant politics of the country. It was during the Concordian Reformation that new parties emerged, such as the now second-largest party, the Social Union, and the National Party.
Present day (2021-present)
After the Consitution of 2021 was ratified, the Democratic Party won the general election with leader Penguin Ball Ballister II becoming the first chancellor. Ballister, a former conservative, became a candidate for the democrats solely due to the lack of personnel in the presidium of the democrats. Since Ballister was a more liberal member of the Conservative Party, both parties agreed to let him run for the democrats, which was more favourable at the time. Since then, the party adopted liberal conservatism as its main doctrine, along with the pre-existing right-wing populist approach to politics and more centre-left approach to state economics.
In October 2024, the Conservative Party and the Democratic Party signed the Concorde Agreement, which began the process of remerging the two parties. The act was to counter the emerging Social Union, a politically left-leaning party that has been gaining popularity since the Concordian Reformation. The combined party was called the Democratic People's Party, it was then renamed to Pax Concordia.
