The Parliament of the Kingdom of Eintrachtia and her Realm is the legislative body of the Kingdom of Eintrachtia. The parliament is bicameral, comprised of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

The parliament represents the legislative power within the Eintrachtian Government. Both the Monarch and the Chancellor, who are the two co-heads of government, are accountable to the parliament. Members of the Chamber of Deputies are representatives of their respective constituencies elected to local councils through universal suffrage, each constituency holds different amount of seats in the house depending on their population. Senators hold lifelong position unless otherwise provided and hold ceremonial power in the parliament, they are senior members of the royal family appointed to form an advisory board to the Monarch, the Senate is accountable to the Chamber of Deputies. The presidency of the lower house is bestowed on the Secretary of State upon assuming office.

History

The concept of an Eintrachtian parliament came about during the Concordian Reformation period in 2021. The parliament was first constituted in 2021 after implementation of constitutional monarchy in Eintrachtia, but no sessions were held until April 2022. Between 2021 and 2022, members of the parliament only consisted of the main officers of state, therefore the Privy Council held the role as legislative body for a brief period of time. In 2022, during the start of the April Boom period, the first session of the parliament was held in the House of Lords, the then upper house. No ceremony for the opening of the parliament was held.

Between 2022 and late 2023, the parliament was de facto unicameral, as the only active house was the House of Lords. The leader of the parliament was the Speaker, Penguin Y. Ballister was the only Speaker ever served in office. The House of Lords was renamed the Senate on 27 December 2023. In early 2024, members of the Senate were moved to the House of Councillors, as such, the office of the Speaker was abolished and in its place presidency of the houses were created. The new Senate consists of 4 senior members appointed from the royal family, senators hold lifelong position. The first session of the parliament has never been ended.

On 23 July 2024, the House of Councillors was renamed the Chamber of the Most Honourable Deputies of the Realm, or simply referred to as the Chamber of Deputies.

Structure

The parliament of Eintrachtia is a bicameral legislature. It consists of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies as the upper and lower houses respectively.

The Monarch is a permanent member of the Senate, the rest of the seats of the Senate are appointed by the Monarch from senior members of the royal family to form an advisory board similar to that of the Privy Council. Members of the Senate hold mostly ceremonial powers and actions of the Senate must be accountable to the Chamber of Deputies. There are currently four appointed seats in the Senate.

Members of the Chamber of Deputies, also known formally as Deputies of the Realm, are elected representatives of their respective constituency or province. Every local council of these constituencies or provinces hold elections for members of the council by direct suffrage. The local councils hold the same amount of seat as they hold in the Chamber.
