Ballistelliburg, formally the Duchy of Ballistelliburg (Eintrachtian: Ducen da Ballestella), also known as Ballistelliburg-Gentoo between 2022 and 2023, is a province and a ceremonial grand duchy of Eintrachtia that lies on the Antarctic Peninsula. It is the earliest formed administrative division of Eintrachtia, established in 2017, it is also the first claim made by Eintrachtia on the Antarctic continent. Ballistelliburg borders the Weddell Sea to the east, the Bellingshausen Sea to the west and accounts for the southern part of the Alexander Island, bordering the Republic of Aksana to the north, which claims the northern rest of the island; the George VI Sound separates the eastern mainland section of Ballistelliburg from its western section. The highest point in Ballistelliburg is the peak of Mount Jackson, at an elevation of 3,184 metres (10,446 ft), it is the highest point in Eintrachtia.
There are few established settlements in Ballistelliburg, the only significant one being the British Fossil Bluff aircraft refueling station on the east coast of Alexander Island. Ballistelliburg has no capitals, its de facto administative centre is in the Royal Antarctic Council, a subordinate office in the Eintrachtian Secretariat of Foreign Affairs.
Ballistelliburg is both a ceremonial duchy and a province of Eintrachtia, meaning it has a Duke as well as a Chief Secretary present in the provincial council. The Duke is a ceremonial title given to the Duke of Ballistelliburg, a hereditary title awarded at the monarch's pleasure, the Duke has little influence in local politics. The Chief Secretary of Ballistelliburg is elected for each term of two years, and sometimes but very rarely be appointed directly by the monarch. Usually, the Chief Secretaries, or Governors-General, depending on the level of administrative division, is only appointed following completion of the local elections.
History
Ballistelliburg was originally an attempt to claim a piece of land on Antarctica by John C.K.L., the founder of Eintrachtia. It was supposed to be named after Penguin B. Ballister I, commonly nicknamed "Ball Ball", who is the elder brother of Penguin B. Ballister II, the Chancellor of Eintrachtia. The State of the Penguins was subsequently founded to give a purpose to the newly made claim, hence Ballistelliburg is also known as the "foundation stone of Eintrachtia".
The claims of Ballistelliburg originally comprised of the entirety of the Antarctic Peninsula, but was later reduced to its current borders following the Concorde Reform in 2021. The province was then incorporated into the province of Gentoo in 2022 in order to form Ballistelliburg-Gentoo. The two later separated as Ballistelliburg was promoted to the status of a ceremonial duchy by King John as a birthday celebration for his grandfather, S.Z.Z. Ballister the Duke of Ballistelliburg and Marshal of the Air Force in 2023, simultaneously awarding the Order of the Penguin to the province.
