The Kingdom of Kingsborough is one of the three constituent countries of the Commonwealth of Queensland, formed from the union of three provinces of the Commonwealth: Carl Gustaf, Qaboos and New Western Brisbane, following the political changes within the Commonwealth. The Kingdom of Kingsborough shares borders with the Kingdom of Ravenswood and the Queenslandian Capital Territory. Kingsborough is a constitutional monarchy with a monarch as the head of state, with Windsor as the centre of governance and economy.
History
Before the Provincial
Before the unification of Carl Gustaf, Qaboos, and New Western Brisbane into the Kingdom of Kingsborough, the three provinces were governed as federated states, each with its own state ruler. Carl Gustaf was a significant province within the Commonwealth, housing key military installations, while New Western Brisbane was the second largest province in Queensland.
In May 2024, the government announced a new national restructuring, merging Carl Gustaf, Qaboos and New Western Brisbane into the Kingdom of Kingsborough. This new entity was to be a constitutional monarchy, with Prince Baudouin, Duke of Sembilan, becoming the first King of Kingsborough. The Prime Minister-appointed Chief Minister would be the head of the government. The provinces held their federated status for the last time on 29 June 2024.
The Kingdom of Kingsborough
On 30 June 2024, the government officially established the Kingdom of Kingsborough, alongside two other countries, as constituent countries of the Commonwealth of Queensland. Kingsborough, alongside the other two new countries, was granted a status similar to that of states in Malaysia, becoming a significant part of the Commonwealth.
Politics
The Kingdom of Kingsborough is a constitutional monarchy with a monarch as the head of state. The current State Sovereign is King Baudouin of Kingsborough, with Crown Prince Frederick, Duke of Amherstburg, serving as the Regent. King Baudouin was elected as the Monarch of the Commonwealth on 19 November 2022, and his term is set to end on 18 November 2024, according to the 2022 Constitution.
The government of Kingsborough is led by the Chief Minister, appointed by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth. The legislative body, the Parliament of Kingsborough, is based on the Westminster system. Thus, the Chief Minister is appointed based on their ability to command a majority in the parliament. The parliament legislates on state matters, with members elected by the public every two years through general elections.
State Sovereign
The State Sovereign of Kingsborough is a hereditary seat and the sovereign ruler of the Queenslandian Constituent country of Kingsborough. The state sovereign is the constitutional head of state of Kingsborough.
The current state sovereign of Kingsborough is Baudouin of Kingsborough, who was proclaimed as the 1st state sovereign on 30 June 2024.
First Minister
The First Minister of Kingsborough is the head of government in the Queenslandian Constituent country of Kingsborough. According to convention, the First Minister is the leader of the majority party or largest coalition party of the Kingsborough Legislative Assembly.
State Legislative Assembly
The State Legislative Assembly is the only council in Kingsborough that consults and makes laws solely for the Kingsborough area. State Legislative Assembly members are nominated by six seats form independent, with the Commonwealth Prime Minister approving the appointment of State Legislative Assembly members.
This is because election regulations have not yet been established at the territorial level of the constituent countries. It is therefore necessary for the Commonwealth Prime Minister to appoint members of the State Legislative Assembly.
Administrative divisions
The Kingdom of Kingsborough is divided into five counties and nineteen districts. Each county is governed by a "Lord-lieutenant" appointed by the monarch, acting as the sovereign's representative in local matters. The counties in Kingsborough are as follows:
