Hugia (/hjudʒiːə/ (
listen), officially the Grand Republic of Hugia, also known as the Second Republic), is a proposed, self-proclaimed sovereign micronation located in North America. It would replace the Kingdom of Hugia, abolishing the monarchy with elections if the Transition Project is ratified by 29 January 2025.
Plans for the creation of the grand republic have been discussed by Hugian prime minister and founder Henry V. stating that it might replace the current monarchy since it is outdated. Everything will stay the same minus the throne.
History
Before the grand republic was proposed, there was a former republic in Hugia's history. It was completely fictional that lasted for 10 months between October 2020 and August 2021. The kingdom would succeed the republic on 12 August 2021. However, this monarchy system would be quickly outdated when the defantasization period started on 5 July 2023. It was especially shown in the July 2024, when the prime minister forced Paul I to resign, making the throne empty for up to 16 days. On 5 August, the prime minister introduced the downgraded monarchy, lasting until 28 January 2025. It is currently reserved by David "I". Many people thought that Hugia was mostly a republic since all of the downgraded monarchs had "terms" that lasted for 30 days each.
On 21 November 2024, Henry V. created a Google Document and titled it Hugia: Project Transition. It explained what and why it could replace the Kingdom of Hugia with a grand republic. So far, he has signed it but is not ratified yet. He originally did not want to change the government after the feedback of the downgraded throne, but after realizing that he doesn't have to change much, it is likely it will go through and many support this idea.
Government
The proposed state takes a framework of a unitary presidential republic, which means the head of government and head of state (prime minister) has all the power in the Hugian government. This will not change if the grand republic becomes active. The prime minister has 5 years in each prime ministerial election. They can be re-elected as many times as they want and can only be voted in by the permanent population. An electoral college is planned to be installed in the grand republic. The prime minister can appoint anyone and has full control within the government.
Foreign relations
It is planned that foreign relations will stay the exact same and not change within the future, making it so that Hugia has informal relations with all micronations.[1]
Administrative divisions
The grand republic will be divided into 5 counties, which are subdivided into an unknown amount of boroughs. The nation will also have a "bicapital system", making it so that Hugia will have 2 capitals. They will be Tractohall and Norte. Norte is planned to be renamed, including many counties and special territories. There will be 3 special territories and 2 national halls, renaming autonomous halls. Paul V. will continue to be the grand governor.
