Politics and government of
the Free City-State of Edenopolis

The diplomatic foreign relations of the Free City-State of Edenopolis are administered by the Royal High Ambassador of Edenopolis, a post created by the first Royal Edict of King of the Free City-State of Edenopolis Horatio Eden's reign. The power to approve international agreements on behalf of the City-State lies, legally, with the King - however, an attache published by the Royal High Ambassador of Edenopolis on November 6, 2016, which met with the King's approval, detailed, in brief, the foreign policy of the nation under the Eden administration:

  • Edenopolis will, in general, refrain from engaging in relations with nations that are simulationist in nature;
  • Edenopolis will, in general, refrain from taking into account the age of a nation when considering foreign relations;
  • Edenopolis will "take into account how detailed the construction of the government or the culture of a micronation is when considering whether diplomatic relations are of interest";[1]
  • Edenopolis will look favourably upon diplomatic requests from GUM members in regards to recognition;
  • Edenopolis will "take into account the history of a nation and the past actions of a nation in the international arena before considering whether diplomatic relations are of interest".[2]

The City-State, being in its legislative and governmental infancy, has only established formal diplomatic relations with two nations; the Abeldane Empire and the Commonwealth and the Empire of Shorewell. However, it has also ratified the charter of the Grand Unified Micronational, and became a full member state of the GUM wielding much influence over the organization and the community.

All nations with diplomatic relations with Edenopolis currently have diplomatic missions housed in embassy buildings on Embassy Row.

Formal diplomatic relations

United States of Wings

The Free City-State and the United States of Wings have a treaty of mutual recognition, which, among other things, requires both nations to recognize each other, and creates both an agreement of free movement of Wingian and Edenopolitical nationals between each others nations and an extradition treaty so that each nation may request that one of their criminals seeking refuge in the others territory may be remanded to the custody of the nation of origin. As of yet, this latter clause has not been invoked.

Additionally, the two nations have formed both the Trans-Atlantic Union - a legislative international union of, currently, the two countries - similar to the European Union, and the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, for the trading of trading cards freely between the two nations. Furthermore, the United States has unofficial most-favoured-nation status economically with Edenopolis.

Abelden

The Free City-State and the Abeldane Empire and the Commonwealth have a treaty of mutual recognition - unofficially referred to by the City-State as the Treaty of Pleston, after the Abeldane city in which it was signed - which, among other things, requires both nations to recognize each other, and creates both an agreement of free movement of Abeldane and Edenopolitical nationals between each other's nations and an extradition treaty so that each nation may request that one of their criminals seeking refuge in the other's territory may be remanded to the custody of the nation of origin.[3] As of yet, this latter clause has not been invoked.
