Royal Edict (Edenopolis)

Royal Edicts, the only presently existing form of federal legislation in Edenopolis, require the King to affix his royal symbol to the top and the bottom for ratification to occur

A Royal Edict is a form of Edenopolitical legislation. So far, it is the only type of legislation passed within the nation.

Royal Edicts are missives published directly by the monarch that, once ratified by the incumbent royal, automatically becomes federal law. Furthermore, within Edenopolitical law, there is no overarching constitution or system of checks and balances against royal power; indeed, the first Royal Edict granted unlimited executive and legislative power to the King.

Organization

Royal Edicts are categorized by date of ratification. The title is always "Royal Edict [year of passage]-[month of passage]-[number of Edict passed that month in Roman numerals]". For instance, for the seventeenth Edict of May in 2017, it would read "Royal Edict 2017-05-XVII".

Scope

The power of Royal Edicts is, within an Edenopolitical legal context in any case, unlimited. There is no constitution, as such, that prevents the King from taking whatever legislative or executive action they deem necessary; furthermore, the pseudo-legislative body within Edenopolis, the Board of Royal Advisors has a merely advisory legislative power, insofar as they can publish works of legislation which require Kingly approval, ultimately meaning all power is vested in the monarchy.

In this, purely legal sense, the scope of Royal Edicts is a wide one.

Ratification

There is no format for how Royal Edicts need to look, save for in one key capacity: for ratification to have taken place, the King must have affixed the royal symbol - currently the black fleur-de-lis for King Horatio Eden - to the top and to the bottom of the legislation. Once these two have been affixed, the law takes effect, and cannot be changed except by subsequent Edict or legislation approved by the monarchy.
