2008 (MMVIII) was a leap year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2008th year of the anno Domini (AD) and Common Era (CE) designations, the 8th year of the 3rd millennium and 21st century, and the 9th year of the 2000s decade. It marked MicroWiki's three year anniversary. The year was the last of the "Foundation Era" of MicroWiki, and was categorised for its arrival of many members which would eventually pioneer large developments and influences in the community which are still felt a decade on. MicroWiki grew to nearly 1,500 pages by the end of the year.[1][2]

Cesidio Tallini continued to dominate the wiki until late in the year, with the arrival of newer members Robert Lethler on 4 October, followed later that month by Jacob Tierney and Joe Foxon.[1] Notably, Alexander Reinhardt and Kalvin Koolidge also made entry into the community in 2008.
