The Kingdom of Galte [ˈgɑːltə], more commonly known as Galte, is a micronation located on Waugoshance Island in Lake Michigan; the Kingdom also holds territory near Memphis, Michigan labelled the Belle Territory. The Belle Territory is the de facto capital of Galte. The Kingdom of Galte was founded on December 8, 2019, when the signing of the Declaration of Independence took place in the Capital Territory, which is no longer a part of Galtesian land. It was originally called the Grand Republic of Usmuani, and functioned under a democratic socialist regime.

Galte is a constitutional monarchy, led by King Michael I, who identifies with the Libertarian Party.

The Kingdom of Galte is a member of the League of Independent Nations and the Kongreso de Esperanto Mikronacioj (lit. the Congress of Esperanto Micronations).

Etymology

Galte is the Norwegian word for crowed, meaning to have cried out loudly. The President picked this name to symbolize how the citizens of Galte (all of whom are former United States citizens) cried out for help and change from the United States government to no avail, before forming the Kingdom of Galte.

History

Founding and transition period

The President signed the Declaration of Independence on December 8, 2019, and named the nation the Grand Republic of Usmuani. Elections were held for the First Congress of the Republic, and Senators were appointed. The nation's momentum fizzled out and laid dormant until early April 2020. The President abolished the Congress and renamed the nation the Republic of Galte. He, along with the two other citizens, drew up a constitution and claimed Low Island, in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica, as the nation's territory. The constitutional convention ended on June 2, 2020, and the new constitution was adopted that same day.

Further progress

On June 24, 2020, the Republic of Galte was admitted into the League of Independent Nations, with a unanimous vote from all Chairmen.

On August 5, 2020, Shepard signed an executive order declaring Galte's claim to Low Island void and claiming Waugoshance Island in Lake Michigan as the nation's territory. 20 days after claiming Waugoshance, the Republic of Galte transitioned into the Kingdom of Galte following a referendum held by Galte's citizens.

Politics and government

Galte is a constitutional monarchy. The nation originally used the term "benevolent dictatorship" to describe how the country is run, but began using describing itself as a democratic republic after the launch of the legislative branch, the Convention. There are multiple government agencies, such as the Bureau of the Treasury, all of which are overseen by the King.

Enforcement

There is no internal police force, as the size of the nation has not required one to exist. If the police must be alerted to anything, the local macronational police are alerted.

Judiciary measures

The Constitution of Galte outlines the functions of a High Court. The power normally delegated to the High Court is currently held by Parliament.

Diplomacy and foreign relations

The intermicronational view of the Kingdom of Galte is generally positive. The nation has only recently begun entering into diplomatic relations, resulting in a fairly short list of alliances.
