Prince of Ebenthal (f. Princess; Portuguese: Príncipe de Ebenthal; f. Princesa) is a royal title granted by birth right to the relatives of the Ebenthali monarchs, including siblings, nephews and nieces, and cousins whose parents also bear the title of Prince or Princess of Ebenthal. When a Ebenthali prince or princess marry, his or her consort, regardless of genre, also becomes a Ebenthali royal due to use the consort's titles and styles. History
The title of Prince of Ebenthal first appeared on 1 October 2014, 20 days after the independence of Ebenthal, to informally refer to the members of the House of Beato, to which belonged King Arthur I and his brother Mateus, who as heir to the throne of Ebenthal at the time received the title of Prince of Arturia after the capital city's former name. Only on 8 October 2015, with the enactment of the Constitution of Ebenthal, the title was formalized, being defined as applicable to members of the King's close family, that being his parents ans siblings.
With the end of the reign of the Beatos and the accession of the House of Bruyn to the throne of Ebenthal in the figure of the King Arthur II in 2019, the following year, the Royal Code was issued, creating new definitions and regulations in the compositions of the house and the royal family and in the titles of its members. As such, now not only would the members of the King's immediate family be Princes of Ebenthal, but all members of his dynasty in legitimate lineage. The Code also defined that the generation of King Arthur II's father, and also of the parents of the first-line Princes and Princesses of Ebenthal, would be recognized as Princes and Princesses of Ebenthal with the appropriate style of treatment.
Initially, the Royal Code provided that only members of the House of Bruyn formally using the surname "Bruyn" could compete for the title of Prince of Ebenthal, but this requirement was amended and removed from the Code a little over a month after its issuance through a Royal Decree.
Regulation
The title of Prince is legally regulated by the Constitution of Ebenthal and further by the 2020 Royal Code on the regime of titles, styles and honours of the Royal Family and the Regents.
1. The King's relatives, of the same rank, as well as of the rank immediately below, will be titled Princes or Princesses of Ebenthal depending on their gender.
2. All legitimate offspring of Princes and Princesses of Ebenthal inherit their princely quality from their parents, as well as any titles that compensate, except for those discriminatedly private and non-hereditary.
3. Apart from what is provided for in this article and in the previous one, and with the exception of what is provided for in article 5 for the members of the Regency, no person may:
a) Be titled Prince or Princess of Altenburg or bear any other title traditionally linked to the heir of the Crown.
b) Be titled Princes or Princesses of Ebenthal.
c) Receive the styles and honours that belong to the dignities of sections a) and b).
