The Parliament of Petorio is the Republic of Petorio's legislative authority. It formerly consisted of two houses: the upper house (Senate) and the lower house (House of Commons). As of April 1, 2010 the Parliament is unicameral with one representative per Province.

Laws passed by Parliament

So far, the Parliament has passed 4 laws (3 with current members) and denied 2. Every law that has been passed to date has been under the suggestion of the president, was created and voted on by the Senate, and voted on again by the House of Commons. One later-reintroduced law denied by Parliament concerned the creation of a military, and the other was about the creation of a National Park Service. Below are the 4 laws that were passed by Parliament

Petorio Energy Act 2008*

PETORIO ENERGY ACT 2009


Public Law Passed by Parliament on October 18, 2008


SECTION 1.

  • (1) This act will ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs
  • (2) This act will ban the use of incandescent light bulbs
  • (3) This act will ban 100W, 75W, 60W, 40W, 20W and all other forms of incandescent light bulbs
  • (4) The purpose of this act is to provide alternative energy for Petorio
    • (a) All stores in The Republic of Petorio MUST as of January 1, 2009 stop selling incandescent light bulbs
    • (b) All citizens of The Republic of Petorio MUST as of January 1, 2009 not use incandescent light bulbs
    • (c) All incandescent light bulbs must be rid of by February 28, 2009


SECTION 2.

  • (1) Violating this act will result in a punishment
  • (2) Alternative light bulbs include halogen, LED, xenon and florecent light bulbs
    • (a) Any stores caught selling incandescent light bulbs in The Republic of Petorio after January 1, 2009 will be fined between $50 - $250, they will be supplied with an alternative light bulb
    • (b) Any citizens caught with incandescent light bulbs in The Republic of Petorio after January 1, 2009 will have them taken and destroyed, they will be supplied with an alternative light bulb

This law was passed by Petorian Parliament on October 18, 2008 with SENATE: 8 yays/2 nays HOUSE OF COMMONS: 6 yays/4 nays and signed by president Koolidge on October 19, 2008.

Petorio Immigration Act 2009

PETORIO IMMIGRATION ACT 2009


Public Law Passed by Parliament on December 24, 2008


SECTION 1.

  • (1) This act will create a permanent immigration system for Petorio
    • (a) If the act is passed the Constitution must be edited accordingly


SECTION 2.

  • (1) All immigrants, weather immigrating via internet forms or by moving here, must first contact the immigration office via the Petorian website
  • (2) The Immigration officer shall ascertain to his own satisfaction, through conversation, that the immigrant has a genuine interest in becoming a citizen of the Republic of Petorio.
  • (3) The officer shall be free to inquire the full name, postal code and e-mail address (one) of the immigrant.
  • (4) The immigration officer shall be required to collect a short essay, written by the applicant, stating why they want to become a citizen of the Republic of Petorio.
  • (5) If, at any point during the process the immigration officer determines that the immigrant shall not be considered further, the immigrant shall be informed of this decision.
  • (6) The immigration process must take NO MORE THAN 7 buissness days unless, for whatever reason, the hired immigration officer is unable to contact the immigrant
    • (a) When the immigrant is accepted he/she will beable to vote in national elections (presidential, parliamentary gubernatorial) for their province via e-mail.

Petorio Military Act 2009

PETORIO MILITARY ACT 2009


Public Law Passed by Parliament on January 10, 2009


SECTION 1.

  • (1) This act will create a permanent military for Petorio unless overwritten by another law.
    • (a) If the act is passed the Constitution must be edited accordingly


SECTION 2.

  • (1) A permanent military containing 3 branches will be created.
  • (2) The 3 branches of the military will be Army, Navy and Border Patrol
    • (a) The army will consist of soldiers with conflicts on land.
    • (b) The navy will consist of sailors with conflicts on water.
    • (c) The border patrol will consist of soliders defending the USA-PET border or the CAN-PET border.
  • (3) Men and Women that are citizens of Republic of Petorio and over the age of 16 can join
  • (4) Members serving in the Petorian military shall be paid a fair price and be supplied with everything needed to survive including entertainment.
  • (5) The commander in cheif will always be the Petorian president. Generals will be appointed by the president
    • (a) The exception is border patrol which has no general.

Petorio Energy Drink Act 2009

PETORIO ENERGY DRINK ACT 2009


Public Law Passed by Parliament on March 11, 2009


SECTION 1.

  • (1) This act will ban the sale of energy drinks in Petorio
  • (2) This act will ban the possession of energy drinks
  • (3) This act will ban energy drinks such as Red Bull, Monster and Rockstar due to their unhealthy nature
  • (4) The purpose of this act is to provide alternative energy for Petorian citizens
    • (a) All stores in The Republic of Petorio MUST as of April 1, 2009 stop selling energy drinks
    • (b) All citizens of The Republic of Petorio MUST as of April 1, 2009 not use or possess energy drinks
    • (c) All energy drinks must be rid of by May 20, 2009

SECTION 2.

  • (1) Violating this act will result in a punishment
    • (a) Any stores caught selling energy drinks such as Red Bull, Monster, Amp, Rockstar in any way, shape or form in The Republic of Petorio after April 1, 2009 will be fined between $20 - $150
    • (b) Any citizens caught with energy drinks in The Republic of Petorio after April 1, 2009 will have them confiscated and destroyed, they will be encouraged to use other products for energy
  • (2) Alternative drinks that will be encouraged include 5 hour energy, coffee and vitamins


This law was passed by Petorian Parliament on March 11, 2008 with SENATE: 3 yays/2 nays HOUSE OF COMMONS: 2 yays/3 nays. President Kalvin Koolidge overruled the house's decision on March 12, 2009, by signing the act.

PETORIO CRIMINAL ACT 2009


Public Law Passed by Parliament on April 5, 2009


SECTION 1.

  • (1) This act will create a permanent police force in each Petorian province and territory
    • (a) If the act is passed the Constitution must be edited accordingly


SECTION 2.

  • (1) All criminals, no matter the level of offense, must have a fair and quick trial by jury
  • (2) A police force will be set up in the following provinces and territories
    • (a) Charwood
    • (b) Cooper
    • (c) Little Italy
    • (d) Keystone Territory
    • (e) Beachfront Territory
    • (f) Acadia
    • (g) Palmyra Creek, KST
    • (h) Bendale, ACD
    • (i) North Lawrence, ACD
  • (3) A police officer shall have the power to arrest accused persons with a valid warrent issued by an elected judge or government personnel.
  • (4) One judge shall be elected for the 2 main regions in Petorio*.
  • (5) A judge (or justice) shall have the final verdict in an accused persons punishment.

SECTION 3.

  • (1) The following are, as of April 31, 2009, illegal in the Republic of Petorio
    • (a) Murder
    • (b) Assault
    • (c) Harassment
    • (d) Blackmail
    • (e) Theft
    • (f) Bribery
    • (g) Slander

Petorio Drug Act 2009

PETORIO DRUG ACT 2009


Public Law Passed by Parliament on June 5, 2009


SECTION 1.

  • (1) This act will make various "drugs" illegal by Petorian law
    • (a) A drug is definied by the Petorian government as "A chemical substance, such as a narcotic or hallucinogen, that affects the central nervous system, causing changes in behavior and often addiction"


SECTION 2.

  • (1) All major psychotropic substances will be made illegal excluding
    • (a) Caffeine
    • (b) Cannabis
    • (c) Nicotine
    • (d) Alcohol
  • (2) All psycotropic substances and psycoactive drugs must be rid of in the Republic of Petorio by August 31, 2009
    • (a) Anyone caught with these substances will be either heavily fined or arrested and charged with a crime
  • (3) Minor psycotropic substances are legal unless otherwise stated by law

Petorio Information Act 2010

PETORIO INFORMATION ACT 2010


Public Law Passed by Parliament on May 10, 2010


SECTION 1.

  • (1) Citizens of the Republic of Petorio who are not members of Parliament or active in the government may not know the laws by which they must abide. This act will, among other things, provide them with the information needed to be informed of laws in Petorio.


SECTION 2.

  • (1) A citizen can be informed of Petorian laws by...
    • (a) emailing the president, vice president or a member of parliament .
    • (b) writing to the president, vice president or a member of parliament.
  • (2) Any citizen interested in learning the Petorian language can make a request to take a class.
    • (a) A class teaching the Petorian language would teach basic vocabulary and grammar.
  • (3) This law goes into effect on May 15, 2010.
