The City of Nolius, more commonly known as simply Nolius, was an independent micronation and former city of the Constitutional Republic of Columbia. It was founded on November 1, 2021 following a treaty signed by ex-Prime Minister of Herzetia A.Y and Columbian president Daniel Maloney. The borders of Nolius included the entirety of the former borders of Herzetia, including all of its territories. Shortly following the end of the Herzetian Nativist War, the City dissolved, reforming as the State of Avon on 10 August 2022.
Etymology
The name Nolius is derived from the name of Herzetia's former capital of New Nolius. The name Nolius in general does not have any special meaning besides its historical importance.
History
Herzetia Dissolves
Following the signing of the November Treaty on 1 November 2021, the State of Herzetia was immediately dissolved. As per the provisions of the treaty, the entirety of Herzetia's former land claims were coalesced into the new Columbian city of Nolius immediately. At this time Nolius had few citizens, so it was ruled as an effective military dictatorship by the mayor, A.Y for some time. Elections were first held in February 2022, after Nolius had gained a nominal amount of citizens, and saw the reelection of Mayor A.Y, as well as the election of Lucas Hayes to head the Nolius Constabulary Force. It was during the early days of Nolius that the territorial expansion that had happened under the Herzetian banner was continued. New territorial regions were established in surrounding areas, as well as in the American state of Utah.
Herzetian Nativist War
In March 2022, the Herzetian Nativist War erupted, seemingly unexpectedly. A small amount of citizens of Nolius, resenting Columbian control of former Herzetian land as well as alleged violations of the November Treaty on the CRC's part, banded together to create the Herzetian Nativist Force and demanded president Daniel Maloney's recognition of an independent Herzetian state. Recognition was not extended, and the HNF declared a state of war against both the Constitutional Republic of Columbia and the government in Nolius. The war dragged on until 1 August 2022, when a peace treaty was signed between the Nativists and Nolius.
Independence
Following Maloney's defense of Desslok, A.Y made the decision to relieve Nolius of Columbian control. On 1 August, Nolius became an independent state.
Dissolution
On 10 August 2022, Young made the decision to dissolve the city of Nolius, wishing to start anew. All of the land within its borders would be reincorporated into the subsequently created State of Avon.
Government and politics
Nolius was headed by a mayor, who cooperated with a city council. Due to its low citizen count, Nolius operated solely underneath the mayorship of A.Y. and the authority of the Nolius Constabulary Force. Elections for the offices of mayor and head of the Nolius Constabulary Force were to be held annually, in February. The offices of city council remained empty due to a low citizen count and wartime measures, but elections for these positions would otherwise also be held in February 2023. The Nolius City Council was to be made up of elected representatives from each region of Nolius, who would act within the body as a pseudo-parliament.
Economy
The economy of Nolius was self-sufficient, as the city does not currently engage in trade with any other cities of micronations. Nolius' main export (or would-be export) was agricultural products and foods. The largest industry in Nolius was the farming and agricultural sector, producing nearly all of the city's export goods.
Geography
Nolius enjoyed a rich and diverse landscape, encompassing plains and fields, thick forests, creeks and rivers, islands, and even an entire butte. The weather of Nolius was dry for most of the year, but it experienced an intense wet and windy season just after March, lasting until the middle of May on average. The center of Nolius had a light pollution level of Bortle 5. Populations of birds and small mammals, as well as those of mountain lions and deer called Nolius their home.
Political Geography
Nolius was sectioned into subdivisions known as regions. Regions were not autonomous, and were created solely for the purpose of electing city council members.
