The Herzetian Nativist War was a military conflict between the Constitutional Republic of Columbia and city of Nolius, and the Herzetian Nativist Force.

Timeline

Prelude

On 1 November 2021, the State of Herzetia was annexed by the Constitutional Republic of Columbia and reincorporated as the city of Nolius. Under Columbian rule, the city was entitled to rights of representation and government, elections for city officials, Columbian military training for former military personnel, and fair treatment of ethnic Herzetians.

The formation of the HNF

The Herzetian Nativist Force was most likely founded on March 6, 2022, the same day it issued its first public statement.[1] In this statement, the HNF claimed that the provisions of the treaty of cession between Herzetia and the CRC had not been fulfilled on the CRC's end. The HNF issued an ultimatum to Columbian president Daniel Maloney, demanding rights to healthcare, military training for Herzetian troops, representation for Nolius in the Columbian senate, and compensation for the abuses the Herzetian people had already suffered. 24 hours were given for Maloney to deliver a public response, but this response was never delivered. Shortly after the video was uploaded, Nolius mayor Asher Young received a link to the video from an anonymous email, and quickly contacted Maloney through Discord. After some discussion, Young decided to direct the Nolius Constabulary Force to conduct an investigation in an attempt to locate any insurgent activity or suspects. This investigation was ultimately fruitless.

Declaration of war

On 11 March 2022, the HNF uploaded their second public statement [2] on YouTube. They addressed Maloney's inaction, as well as the removal of their first video from YouTube, which the HNF claimed was the work of Columbian authorities. The HNF declared war against both the CRC and its "puppets in Nolius", stating goals of restoring Herzetian sovereignty. Following the upload of this video, Maloney urged Young to try and make contact with the leader of the HNF. However, the identity of the leader of the HNF was unknown to Young and his constables, and he was unable to make any contact for negotiations. In the days after the declaration, reports were heard of disturbances in the outer regions of Nolius, but died down until the 30th.

Invasion of Highland

On 30 March 2022, the HNF conducted an invasion and occupation of the Highland region of Nolius (formerly Sulena Territory). The Nativists met no resistance, and issued another statement [3] shortly afterward. The HNF included several images of the invasion, all of which were images of a black flag in front of scenery in Highland. Young was on vacation at the time, and was unable to lead any sort of military resistance to the invasion. He instructed his top generals to lead a military operation against HNF encampments in Highland on 4 April 2022.

Battle of Highland

On Young's orders, Nolius generals, leading military servicemen, constables, and loyalist militia, engaged with Nativist forces in Highland on 4 April 2022. The battle lasted around an hour and a half, and most of the fighting was concentrated around Fort Cnoc. The battle ultimately resulted in a Nativist victory, and Nolius forces withdrew from the region.

Begley Commonwealth

Shortly after the Battle of Highland concluded, Maloney messaged Young over Discord to inform him that a Columbian ally would be offering diplomatic and military support. The leader of the Begley Commonwealth, Brandon J. Begley, reached out to the Nativists on YouTube in an attempt to make diplomatic progress, claiming that Begley had forces stationed around the occupied Highland region. The HNF replied that these claims were unfounded, and engaged in a week-long correspondence with Begley, who had mistakenly identified the HNF to be representing the nonexistent "Herzetia Republic" and seemed to believe that the war was a simulation. After the HNF representatives confirmed that the war was indeed not a simulation and that Begley forces would not be able to engage in any actual combat with the Nativists, Begley stated that they intended to find a diplomatic solution to the war, including a possible creation of a "Herzetia Republic", and announced that a war crimes investigation was being launched. This investigation yielded no results.

Rochester

On 10 April 2022, civilians in Nolius submitted Constabulary reports stating that they had observed individuals in black clothing and masks in the Rochester region. Constabulary patrols were immediately ramped up, and defensive measures such as curfews and military escorts were established. On 15 April, one of the suspicious individuals was spotted by the mayor to be observing the capitol building from a distance. Members of the mayor's personal guard were dispatched to arrest the person, but were unsuccessful when the person of interest escaped into a nearby network of alleyways and was lost. No shots were fired. As of 26 April, 2022, there had been four separate sightings of alleged Nativists inside Rochester.

Outer regions

Following the successful occupation and defense of Highland, the HNF began conducting operations in other outer regions of Nolius. As of 8 May 2022, the HNF had successfully occupied the regions of Sudbury, Shaniko, Seaman Island, Harlaus, and Roosevelt. All of these regions aside from Sudbury, where a small garrison made a defense at the Battle of Sudbury, were invaded and occupied bloodlessly. This sudden blitz of military occupations followed over a month of HNF radio silence. Beginning 8 May, the central Rochester region was under lockdown and martial law in order to defend against what appeared to be an imminent Nativist assault, though no assault ever came.

End of the war

During the war, allegations regarding inappropriate and potentially illegal behavior of a friend of Maloney's were released to the greater micronational community. Maloney would defend his friend, claiming the allegations were fake, despite numerous pieces of explicit evidence to support the contrary. Disgusted by this, mayor Asher Young issued a diplomatic delegation to the Nativist presence surrounding Rochester. The diplomats discussed Maloney's behavior and involvement, and came to the conclusion that Nolius would not longer align itself with The Constitutional Republic of Columbia. The Nativists agreed to dissolve their movement, and the war later officially concluded with a peace treaty signed on 1 August.

Aftermath

On 10 August, 2022, wishing to move on past the recently-ended period of Columbian sovereignty, disestablished the independent City of Nolius, and coalesced all of its territory under the banner of the State of Avon, a distinct departure from the past iterations of the nation, all of which had been tied to Herzetian identity in their name and cultures.
