East Tawil (officially the Special Territory of East Tawil) was a claim of eastern Bir Tawil by Hugia. Hugia claimed the eastern half of it. However, no one recognized this claim except for the Hugian government themselves.

Etymology

East Tawil means the eastern half of the unclaimed land of Bir Tawil.

History

The history of this unclaimed land goes back to colonial times. The British Empire had lands over Egypt and Sudan after they took it from the Ottomans in 1899. Egypt claimed the original border then.

On 6 November 2023, the prime minister considered that, “we must expand this nation.” A few days later on 12 November, the prime minister announced that Hugia will be claiming the eastern half of Bir Tawil. Along with that, a new administrative division is created, special territories of Hugia (formerly known as free territories).

On 11 November 2024, a speech by the prime minister about the Declaration of Independence, announced that the following day that operations in East Tawil will cease.

Other claims and disputes

Hugia said they will not recognize or engage with any micronation diplomatically that claims the eastern part of Bir Tawil. “Any micronation that claims our claim, we will not establish diplomacy or recognize you,” Henry Vireyica announced.
