Her family background is a pivotal part of the inspiration behind the Kingdom of Ruthenia and its successor state, the Karno-Ruthenian Empire. She was the second head of the Karno-Ruthenian Red Cross.
Life and marriage
Denise was born at Winter Residence of the Goëtzën family, in São Paulo, Brazil as the second child of Count Michael von Goëtzën, and his first wife, Countess Theresa von Goëtzën. She was baptised at St. Stephen of Hungary's Church in 1970, the same place where her only child would be baptized in 1996. Denise and her elder brother, Wladimir spent their youth in a difficult relationship scarred by their parents' turbulent marriage and eventual separation and divorce. Her brother would die childless in 1992. Her father remarried but had no children from this relationship and eventually passed away in 2015. Her mother also remarried and had no children from this relationship, eventually dying in 1989.
In 1980s, she married Archduke Ari of Karnia. It was the only child of such couple, Oscar, to usher in this family with the actual status in 2014. At birth the king, who already boasted a courtesy title of (Count von Goëtzën), families make appear in documents that were known as "Götzö and Thomaz-Rocha", although it is more common to use the last name, and after his coronation, the king has signed as "Oscar of Ruthenia". After the death of his grandfather, Michael von Goëtzën, Oscar of Ruthenia took the title of Count of Bihar, since he was the last male member of the family still alive.
On 9 May 2018, she was created Duchess of Sasso-Koharové by force of the Imperial Decree n. 139-2O18, who recreated this foreign title as the title of the Imperial Family. On 21 October 2019, she was made the leader of the Karno-Ruthenian Red Cross, a position she occupied since the former Empress Paloma left the empire on 5 September 2019. After the divorce of her son and her daughter-in-law, she became the most important female figure of the Imperial Court until 26 August 2021 when her son married Infanta Marie Elisabeth Haiane of Woestein, who also succeeded her as head of the Karno-Ruthenian Red Cross on 9 September 2021.
On 25 November 2021, an amendment was decreed by Emperor Oscar I, recognizing retroactively the title and style of Their Imperial and Royal Majesties, the Emperors of Karnia and Kings of Ruthenia to his parents, Archduke Ari and Archduchess Denise. Despite no real change, it was seen as a show of respect to his parents.
