Basistha City is the state capital of Basistha, Vishwamitra. It is also the only city in the state and ranks sixth in the federal order of precedence of the cities of the nation. The administration of the city is looked after by a mayoral council headed by the Mayor, who is appointed by the Rajyapal of Basistha and serves at their pleasure. The current mayor is Chandan Das who was appointed on 26 July 2020.

History

Basistha City was created on 26 June 2020 under the Cities Re-organization Act of 2020 which was decreed by Rashtradhyaksh Tanishkaa Patranabish. The act also established capital cities in the other states of Vishwamitra.
