The Optimates are a right-wing Montescanesque political faction, founded in late 2019. The faction is partially-inspired by and named after the historical Ancient Roman faction of the same name. It follows an ideological platform compromised of "monarchism, feudalism, Orientism and reactionism" and actively supports legislation upholding social conservatism and aristocracy.

The Optimates were founded on 11 December 2019, immediately following the passing of the "Political factions act", making them the first political faction within the history of Montescano. Grand Pensionary Lord von Drakon, Marquess of Asenhorod and Lord Çakar, Marquess of Iskorosten were the founding members, with Marquess of Asenhorod becoming the leader as the highest-ranking Council of State member. It is currently the largest political faction within Montescano, with four seats within the Council of State and the support of numerous regional officials.

Ideology

The Optimates describe their ideology as monarchist, feudalist, traditionalist and Orientist. They support the dynastic authority of House of Tezdzhan-Smahin and assert that the dynasty has the divine right to rule. The legitimacy of the House of Tezdzhan-Smahin is also defended by the Optimates with Orientism (more commonly known outside of Montescano as Imperium theory), which claims that its legitimacy is based from their descent from the Palaiologos and Borjigin dynasties. The Optimates promote an executive monarchy system, where the monarch wields large but not absolute political power alongside the Council of State, although some members have sympathies for absolutism.

The Montescanin system of feudalism is supported by the faction and they oppose reforms that weaken the power of the nobles. It advocates for the development of the estate system and promotes collaboration between the different estates for the betterment of Montescanin society. The faction itself represents the interests of the nobles within the Council of State.

The Optimates are traditionalists and reactionary, opposing progressivism and cultural liberalism. It opposes homosexuality, transgenderism, feminism, abortion, recreational drug use, promiscuity, pornography and other activities or lifestyles associated with hedonism. The faction believes Christianity should play a large role within society and politics, opposing secularism. There is not a formal economic policy within the Optimates, although they oppose communism and usury.
