November 2024 Easwegian general election
A general election is set to take place in November 2024 to elect members of the United Common Assembly of the Common Union of Easway, who will in turn elect the government, the National Directorate on 25 November 2024. An election of the chief of state, the Grand Councillor will take place on 8 November and a seperate election to elect the wider Assembly one week later on 15 November.
The general election will take place in the context of a declared national emergency and a suspended constitution, whereby the Supreme Court of Easway in a 6-1 vote voted to oust the previous chief of government, General Director Metallityöt, and appointed Grand Marshal Emizerri as his acting replacement. Grand Councillor Squ Bai, who has served since 25 November 2023, will not be standing for re-election. The race for Grand Councillor is between independent moderate Syri vi Ezerrye and NRPE nationalist Don Cho.
Writ of election
Presidium Ombudsman Teireet announced the writ of election on 14 October 2024, for Friday 8th November 2024, and Friday 15th November 2024.
== Declared national emergency ==
On 25 October 2024, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Emizerri, issued a decree titled 'J'Accuse...', which named General Director Metallityöt and his Solidarity party (headed by Gaia Grìbhinneach) of economic mismanagement and the promotion of public sexual misconduct; namely the Freedom to Access Pornography [FAP] Act, which had received strong criticism from opposition groups for the time it had taken from other more pressing matters and its lacklustre implementation. On 4 October 2024, Gaia Grìbhinneach, despite being prefect of Grand Liyvazun and a member of the Supreme Court, claimed they had 'just lost interest in Easway.' The Supreme Court claimed Easway was heading to dangerous levels of both polarisation and economic destabilisation which threatened the existence of the state, and for this they voted to oust Metallityöt as General Director and appoint Emizerri in a temporary one-month measure, which they termed the Unfortunate Obligation.
Grand Councillor candidates
Don Cho
Don Cho announced his candidacy on 15 October. He cited his previous candidacy and the gains he has made since then, being sure that the 'great Easwegian people would place their faith and trust in me to lead this Grand Nation.' Don Cho has led a campaign of economic reform and transparency. He proposes to retire the Imperative Council as collective head of state, instead having one position (the Grand Councillor) as sole head of state with the powers of the Imperative Council officially transferred to other bodies, including the United Presidium Authority and defence council, which he claims is already de facto the case due to previous amendments. These implementations will be decided through a referendum on his candidacy.
Endorsements Don Cho has been endorsed by Marquis and leader of Easway First Devaade Raizerni. Both representatives are placed on the social conservative side of politics.
Syri vi Ezerrye
Syri vi Ezerrye announced his candidacy on 16 October 2024.
Endorsements Aleksoundër Zerrindou, prefect of Chuoscharni, endorsed Syri vi Ezerrye on 19 October.
Debate
A debate between the two Grand Councillor candidates is set to take place in early November, hosted by public broadcaster Eix - Easway.
Assembly members at-large
The Assembly members at-large are those who chair a constituency, as opposed to being a prefect. Their titles are either Alderman for the Island Communities/Commonwealths or Marquis for the municipalities.
- Archienné, currently Marquis of Pomoresia, announced his intention to run for Marquis of Boriopa Centrum on 20 October.
- Devaade, currently Marquis of Boriopa Centrum, announced his intention to run for Marquis of Urdport on 19 October.
Prefectural assembly members
- Prefect of Chuoscharni, Aleksoundër Zerrindou, announced his re-election bid on 17 October, standing as an independent.
Assembly President
The Assembly President is the speaker of the United Common Assembly and is elected by its members. During and because of the national emergency, Emizerri has announced on 28 October that he seeks to retire as Grand Marshal and Chief Justice, instead taking a more active political role. Therefore, with approval from current Assembly President Swapardeshi, Emizerri seeks election.
Grand Marshal and Chief Justice
The Grand Marshal is the head of the Easwegian National Guard who simultaneously serves as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Due to Emizerri announcing his retirement from this role, on 28 October he publicly endorsed Swapardeshi to replace him, citing her instinct for 'justice and righteousness.' If elected, Swapardeshi will become the first female commander-in-chief and head of the Supreme Court.
Retiring officials
The following officials are not seeking re-election.
- Gaia Grìbhinneach, prefect of Grand Liyvazun
- Frankie, Marquis of Urdport
- Demitrou Chostacovitch, Alderman of Pomoresia
