Middle Secundomia is the oldest city in the Federation of Secundomian Socialist Republics. The city serves as the capital of the Middle Secundomia district and the SR Secundomia.

History

Pre-History

Middle Secundomia is located on land in eastern Kansas, the United States of America. In the early 2000s, a portion of this land was purchased by the family of Parker I and Spencer I. Already on the land was a 2 story split level home built in the 1970s and a wooden fort with a rainbow tarp covering of unknown origin as well as several trees. South of the home is a road leading to a nearby vacant lot which contained several trees and a fence. Circa 2008 the family erected a large brick wall, a swingset, basketball court and sandbox in the backyard.

First Kingdom Era

Middle Secundomia was founded as Secundomia City on December 15, 2009 alongside the creation of the Kingdom of Secundomia. Due to the Kingdom's small size, the city was the only constituent part of the country and consisted only of a backyard. The largest building in the city was Fort Secundomia located in the geographical center. Fort Secundomia had an attached sandbox built several years prior to Secundomia's foundation. The fort had lost its roof and by 2009 had exhibited significant rot. A large wooden swingset also built several years earlier was located on the western side of the city. A small basketball court was located on the southern side of the city as well as a sidewalk providing access to the Green House which would later become Secundomia's capitol building.

First Republic Era

After the founding of the Republic of Secundomia, it became the de facto capital of the young country. In late 2009, it became the de jure capital of Secundomia and the newly christened state of Middle Secundomia. Parker and Spencer founded Middle Secundomia City consisting of the Green House as a capitol building for the young nation. The city immediately annexed the yard around the home including the area previously known as Secundomia City.

In 2010, the State of Middle Secundomia expanded to include regions outside of the city. The city then became a major hub for the country economically, culturally and politically. Presidents Parker I and Spencer I conducted most of the official business of the country from the city, and the north side of the city was also critical to the foreign affairs of the country. Even when out of power, Parker was entrusted by Luke and Spencer to conduct foreign affairs for Secundomia which was exclusively done from an office in the Green House. Middle Secundomia City played host to the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Micronational Olympics including a torch relay. Secundomian Media also had their headquarters in an office in Middle Secundomia City.

In 2011, the state of Middle Secundomia was officially expanded to include a much larger area in order to border both Lower Secundomia and Merreneitoja. With this expansion, the city of Middle Secundomia was expanded to include the territory of the larger city. Although Secundomia broadly declined in activity in 2011 and 2012, the city remained relatively bustling compared to the outer reaches of the nation. Although SAASE conducted launches in more rural areas of Secundomia, rockets were constructed and researched in the city prior to launch. In 2011 Fort Secundomia was demolished due to significant decay threatening the safety of the Secundomian Military. The swingset and basketball courts were also eventually demolished and a firepit was built in the backyard.

Later Years

With the rise of the Eran Federation, Middle Secundomia retained importance as a major base of communication between Secundomia and the broader federation government. Parker I was elected prime minister of the nation and continued to reside in Middle Secundomia during his tenure. In 2015 Middle Secundomia entered some turmoil during the bloodless coup that created the Third Kingdom of Secundomia, but the city began to lose political relevance after the DRS leadership moved the capital to Eastern Secundomia. Middle Secundomia retained relevance as a political and economic center in the FSSR, continuing to host sporting events such as Sandbox Soccer and was often used as a summer home for leader Parker I until 2017. While the Secundomian capital has bounced between several places in Eastern Secundomia, Middle Secundomia has consistenly remained under Secundomian leadership.

In 2020 and 2021 Middle Secundomia has undergone significant renovation both to the Green House and the backyard. A large fence was built to increase privacy within the city and the old basketball courts have been converted into a major event space. The sandbox was also demolished as part of this renovation which put an end to the Secundomian tradition of Sandbox Soccer. After the loss of Gravois, some in Secundomia have expressed concern over rumors that Middle Secundomia will soon leave the hands of the government but Chairman Parker I has dismissed these rumors. Permanent population of the city has declined by almost 50% since its foundation, but it remains a popular vacation destination swelling in numbers around holidays.

Government

Middle Secundomia has not had an independent government throughout much of its history. It was administered by the State of Middle Secundomia during the Republic of Secundomia. Since the establishment of the FSSR, the city is administered directly by the leadership of the Maoist-Worker's Party.

Climate & Geography

The city is located in the Secundomian River Valley in the center of the Middle Secundomia district. The Middle Secundomian Highway system runs through the country, offering connection between the city and neighboring SR Tergumterra. The Backwoods Fort, a military installation for the FSSR exists in the south of the city and was established in the days of the first republic. Located to the north of the fort is the Pine and Snow Hill park, named for former counties in the state of Middle Secundomia.

Neighborhoods

Middle Secundomia City is broken up into two neighborhoods located to the north and south of the Middle Secundomian Highway. The Green House neighborhood is located in the north and makes up the vast majority of the cities population. This neighborhood is highly developed and features most of the city's infrastructure investments. To the southwest, the Pine and Snow Hill neighborhood is much less developed and is mainly used by the FSSR military and sports teams playing in the park.

Climate

Middle Secundomia has a humid subtropical or humid continental climate, experiencing hot, muggy summers and cold winters. Due to its location in Tornado Alley, it is under threat from extreme weather especially in the spring. Most extreme weather events experienced by the city include flooding of the south and western portions of the city, which lie much lower than the densely populated areas to the north and east.

Demographics

Middle Secundomia City contains 3 permanent residents. Only one current resident is a registered Secundomian citizen who has rarely participated in Secundomian politics. At its peak, Middle Secundomia had a population of 5 residents and 3 citizens, including Parker I and Spencer I. The population of the city is mostly caucasian with a small Native American minority. Religion is rarely practiced in the city, but some citizens identify as religious, attending Christian churches outside of town.

Arts and Culture

Middle Secundomia is known as a cultural capital of the FSSR. Citizens often travel to the city to observe sporting events and artistic exhibitions. Throughout the history of the city, Middle Secundomia has been an extremely active cultural site. The former capital building, the Green House is now home to a school and renowned restaurants that attract tourism to the city. Residents are known for producing visual arts including paintings and drawings, with a large uptick in the arts scene noted in 2020.

Music

Middle Secundomia is also the musical center of the nation, with the largest population of active musicians living in the city. Residents were known for playing classical and rock music using the piano, guitar, violin and trumpet. In recent years, classical music has become more dominant in the city with most concerts revolving around violin recitals.

Sports

Secundomia Racing International's M1 team was moved to Middle Secundomia City in 2020.

The city has two major areas for sport, soccer fields in the north where the FSSR national sport of Sandbox Soccer was invented and American football fields in the south. While sports, including tennis and soccer, are still actively played in and around the city, organized sports teams have largely died out after the city declined in population. Racing has remained popular in the city and although Secundomian Racing International was based in Castle City, the first racing track in Secundomia was officially constructed in Middle Secundomia City in 2020.

Education

The Secundomian School was based in the Green House capitol building. The Secundomian School was the flagship school of the Secundomian educational system, a decentralized schooling system spread throughout the country. Parker I was one of the school's pupils, graduating in 2011. After early 2011, the school was phased out and most residents began to attend American educational institutions outside of the city.
