The Foral Republic of Draaken (Spanish: República Foral de Draaken), is a self-proclaimed sovereign micronation. It was founded on 25 june 2019 by a citizen named Draaken. Is a digital micronation, located on a internet forum, that does not claim any physical territory.

Etymology

The official name is Foral Republic of Draaken (Spanish: República Foral de Draaken), usually abbreviated to "F. R. of Draaken" (Spanish: R. F. de Draaken). This name refers to:

History

The Foral Republic of Draaken was founded on June 25, 2019; when the citizen Draaken took possession of the internet forum and made the Constituent Declaration of the Republic, proclaiming the creation of a forum-type digital micronation on that virtual territory.

After the Constituent Declaration, a Constituent Assembly was established and began work to establish a fundamental rule that organizes the new micronation.

On July 2, 2019; the Constituent Assembly, unanimously, approved the Organic Law of the Republic that established which will be the main institutions of the micronation: the President of the Republic, the Assembly and the Government. In accordance with the Organic Law of the Republic on July 9, Draaken, a candidate presented by the parliamentary group of Citizen Democratic Action, was unanimously elected as first President of the Republic.

After this Draaken has been re-elected three more times as President of the Republic. During this time the micronation has consolidated its institutions and has become a secular presidential republic. Also it has established diplomatic relations with other micronations and has been integrated in intermicronational organizations such as OMU and CMLOE.

Politics and government

Government

The Foral Republic of Draaken is a unitary presidential democratic republic. The government is regulated by the Organic Law of the Republic, which serves as the country's supreme legal document. The original text was approved on July 2, 2019; by the Constituent Assembly, and reformed on January 22, 2020.

The Assambly of the Republic is a general assembly of the citizens of the micronation, where meet to decide on legislation and dispense justice. This Assambly constitutes one form of direct democracy because all citizens of the micronation can attend sessions and vote. The most senior citizen of the micronation is the General Secretary of the Assembly of the Republic (spanish: Secretario General) and is its presiding officer.

The President of the Republic, currently Draaken, is the head of state, elected by the Assembly of the Republic for six months. He appoints the ministers and other officers, who administer and enforce laws and policies. Council of the Ministers is composed of the President of the Republic and ministers and is a formal body of advisers to the President of the Republic.

Participation in Microvision Song Festival

The Foral Republic of Draaken participated in the 2019 edition of the Microvision Song Festival, celebrated in Catonia. Draaken Television Corporation, the public broadcasting company, selected a musical group called Ragdog to participate in this edition, interpreting the song "Tu y yo". With 44 points, the representative of Foral Republic of Draaken was placed in tenth place in this edition.
