The Federal Government of the United Federation of Aumarea (UF Federal Goverment, UF Government or Federal Government of Aumarea) is the national government of the United Federation of Aumarea. It is composed of three parts - the legislature (congress), the executive (presidency) and judiciary (supreme court), whose powers are vested by the Constitution of Aumarea. The federal government was formally established on 12 March 2023 with the ratification of the constitution.

The federal government is located in Kosa Federal District.

History

Practically, the federal government was formed on 3 March 2023 as the continental government. Legally the federal government was established on 12 March 2023 after the ratification of the Constitution of Aumarea. The constitution also created the federal government in its current form.

Legislative Branch

The United Federation Congress, under Article I of the Constitution, is the legislative branch of the federal government. It is bicameral, comprising the House of Delegates and the Senate.

Powers of Congress

The Constitution grants numerous powers to Congress. Enumerated in Article I, Section VIII, these include the powers to levy and collect taxes; to coin money and regulate its value; provide for punishment for counterfeiting; establish post offices and roads, issue patents, create federal courts inferior to the Supreme Court, combat piracies and felonies, declare war, raise and support armies, provide and maintain a navy, make rules for the regulation of land and naval forces as well as provide for, arm and discipline the militia.

Article I of the constitution also vests all legislative ability in congress.

Impeachment of Federal Officers

Congress has the power to remove the president, federal judges, and other federal officers from office. The House of Delegates and Senate have separate roles in this process. The House must first vote to impeach the official. Then, a trial is held in the Senate to decide whether the official should be removed from office. In the event of a presidential impeachment, the Chief Justice typically presides, otherwise it's normally the vice president who does.

Executive Branch

Presidency

The executive branch is established in Article II of the United Federation Constitution, which vests executive power in a President of the United Federation. The president is both the head of state (performing ceremonial functions) and the head of government (the chief executive). Many presidential actions are undertaken via executive orders or presidential proclamations.

The president is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and can credit and receive ambassadors. They also appoint ambassadors, and other public officers including the cabinet, on the advice and consent of the senate. The president can also grant pardons and clemency.

Under the Presentment Clause of Article I of the constitution, a bill that passes both chambers of Congress shall be presented to the president, who may sign the bill into law or veto the bill by returning it to the chamber where it originated.

Presidential Elections

The president and vice president are typically elected as running mates by the electoral college. Each state has a number of electoral votes equal to the size of its Congressional delegation (i.e., its number of Delegates in the house plus its two Senators).

Cabinet

Article II, Section II of the Constitution sets forth the creation of a presidential cabinet. The role of the Cabinet is to advise the president and carry out the programs and laws of the federal government. The Cabinet is composed of the vice president and the leaders of 17 executive departments and 2 executive offices and is chaired and overseen by the president.

Judicial Branch

The Judiciary, under Article III of the Constitution, explains and applies the laws. This branch does this by hearing and eventually making decisions on various legal cases.

The most senior national court is the Supreme Court of Aumarea, presided over by the Chief Justice of Aumarea. The constitution authorises congress to ordain and establish courts inferior to the supreme court as the need shall arise.

The supreme court tackles matters pertaining to the federal government, disputes between states, and interpretation of the United Federation Constitution, and, can declare legislation or executive action made at any level of the government as unconstitutional, nullifying the law and creating precedent for future law and decisions.

Elections

Elections are different for both houses of Congress as well as the presidency.

The House of Delegates is elected by a more proportional system with each state being guaranteed at least one delegate and the actual number being based on population of each state. Constitutionally a census has to be carried out every 10 years to check the population and ensure each state is given a proportional number of Delegates based on their population. The senate is elected by first past the post, with each state getting two senators.

The president alongside the vice president, however, is appointed by the Electoral College who appoints based on who gets the most electoral college votes based on the electoral results from each state.
