Eli Barak is a politician in the Islamic Emirate of Acre. Currently serving as Chancellor in the Akkan Cabinet, Barak is the founder and current leader of the Labor Zionist Party, serving in government with the Conservative Party and the Movement for the Homeland. Previously, Barak served as Speaker while in government with the Liberal Union. He represents the constituency of Kiryat Ata West.

Political Position

Barak is considered a moderate member of the party, and is part of the social democratic caucus. He was central to the party's being defined as a social democratic party, instead of democratic socialist, a designation preferred by the party's left.

Under Barak's leadership, the LZP adopted a centre-left manifesto in the hope of winning over left-leaning voters from the Liberal Union. This strategy succeeded in the October 2020 and December 2020 general elections, when the party won seats from the Liberals.

After the October election, many members of the democratic socialist caucus were angered by Barak's decision to enter into coalition government with the right-wing Conservative Party and the nationalist Movement for the Homeland, though this move was strongly supported by the party's own nationalist caucus. Miriam Bar, a social democrat, defected to the Liberal Union in November in response to Barak's decision.
