The Burnsland Territory, also known as the River Afton Territory or Burnsland is a Territorial Possession of the Kingdom of Freshland that currently constitutes Freshland's Mainland. Burnsland is located in the semi-rural town of New Cumnock in Scotland, UK. Burnsland was first established on 22 June 2021 when Freshland's royal family went into exile resulting in the merge of the provinces and territories that had made up Mainland Freshland until that point. Burnsland does not have a permanent population as of 2023.
Etymology
Burnsland was named after 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns, well known for the popular poem "Sweet Afton" about the nearby River Afton.
History
Burnsland's history began in early 2018, not long after Freshland was founded by Scottie H. in late 2017. It was originally a small colony located in the rural backyard area of what was called "New Paris" by Scottie I. Later on, more colonies and eventually provinces and territories would be established in New Cumnock. These provinces and territories would be formed into Mainland Freshland on 10 December 2020, following a brief insurgency in New Paris. After Freshland's Royal Family went into exile on 22 June 2021, the area was trapped in limbo before being established as an territory by Scottie I, who named named the area "Burnsland" in honour of the world-famous 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns, who is often referenced in New Cumnock for his poem "Sweet Afton" witch is mainly centred around the River Afton, all provinces and territories were merged together as they were seen as unnecessary by Scottie I. Despite still being the mainland of Freshland, as of 2023, Burnsland currently has no inhabitants.
