The April 2023 Pinangese Presidential Election was held between 9 and 13 April 2023. It was the first indirect presidential election of the Pinangese history. Rafe Burfield was elected by the Parliament with a total 9 votes out of 16 voters.
Procedure
The president is indirectly elected by the parliament. Two thirds of votes are required in the first two rounds, while the absolute majority is needed in the following rounds. The members of the Parliament can vote for any citizen who is aged 15 or older and has held citizenship for two weeks Each ballot must last at least 24 hours and there isn’t any nomination period.

As according to the constitution, two thirds of majority was needed to elect a candidate on the first round. No candidate received the required majority.

Two thirds of majority was needed to elect a candidate on the second round. The ballot resulted in a tie between the Moderate Rafe Burfield and the Communist Daniel Quintero. No candidate was elected.

Third ballot (12-13 April 2023)
In the third round, the absolute majority was required. Rafe Burfield was elected President of the Republic.

Aftermath
After his election, Rafe Burfield sent a Notice of Resignation from the Executive Council and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Pinangese government and a Notice of Resignation from the Parliament to the Speakership. After taking the oath, he postponed the executive and legislative election from 16 April 2023 to 23 April 2023. After some hours, Burfield published a video of his first address to the Pinangese citizenship, in which he called for national unity, spoke about the importance of dialogue, collaboration and constructive criticism and invited the citizens to take part in the politics of the nation.
Reactions
According to an opinion poll, 56% of the Pinangese approved Burfield’s election, while 44% didn’t. Therefore, the modalities of the election have been contested by the PDS secretary Ezio Auditore, stating that the Constituent Assembly should have become the interim parliament, instead of the two chambers and that the election should have took place after the executive and parliamentary election. Auditore’s critical points have been shared by the PCP leader Ayane Martinez.
