The first gubernatorial election took place on 30 December 2022 and it was won by Esty Carpentieri. On 28 February 2023, the statute of autonomy was approved by the Pinangese senate, making it the second canton of the republic. On 19 and 20 March 2023, the March 2023 Metropinangese Cantonal election was held, Esty Carpentieri was elected unanimously Governor, and the FDUAS obtained the majority in the Cantonal Assembly. In June 2024 Carpentieri was elected unanimously Governor for a second term. Esty Carpentieri resigned in September after his appointment as justice to the Pinangese Supreme Court. [1] In September 2024 the Assembly voted for a reform of the statute, which abolished the Semi-presidential system in favour of a Presidential system. In October 2024 Ezio Auditore was elected with four fifths of the votes as Governor of Metropolitan Pinang.
