The 2024 Laskaridian general election is an upcoming election in the Kingdom of Laskaridia that will decide the first Lord Chancellor of Laskaridia, the composition of the Chamber of Lords, and the allocations in the Chamber of Ministers. The election was called via royal edict[1] on 12 February 2024, and is expected to take place on 30 March of the same year. The election will see competition between the two most dominant parties, Tolerantia and the Christian Democrats, along with the declining Nationalist Left Party led by Silas Wurnbash, the Viscount Strasely. In addition, various independent politicans are expected to contest seats in the Chamber of Lords, including The Lord Rexford and Sir Christoph Billung, who is also contesting the Chancellorial position.

Background

After a period of inactivity, the Laskaridian newspaper company Vanguard began to poll, this started in December 2023, before Tolerantia was a party. The turnout was 6 citizens, showing equal distribution of votes between the Nationalist Left Party and the Christian Democratic Party.[2] Following severe inactivity from the Nationalist Left, Governor of Norfolk Sir Thomas Jacobs left the party in favor of the new and more extremist Tolerantia party. In addition, many people who were previously independent, such as Chaplain General Christoph Billung switched to the Tolerantians as well. By February 1st, the sovereign had expressed his intention to call elections, this was while the Christian Democratic Party still held majority in polls, and Tolerantia was catching up.[3] The re-entry[4] of Alexander I, Seneschal of Donnauberg into politics bolstered support for the Christian Democratics, who were able to maintain a 2-vote lead in polling[5], meanwhile, the acceptance of his claim to the throne of Donnauberg proved a victory for the party.[6] On 1 April 2024, Etsy Carpentieri founded the Progressive Alliance (PA), the first left-wing party in Laskaridia. Its ideologies include Civic Nationalism, Progressivism, Egalitarianism, Secularism and Anti-authoritarianism. The party's creation was much to the ridicule of the right-wing sector, which currently dominates pollings.

Polling

Various sources have begun polling for the election, most prevalently, Vanguard. Vanguard, despite being affiliated to the Christian Democrats, has a wide audience of multipartisan views. So far, there have not been any polling controversies.

Other pollings

Apart from Vanguard and government sources, the Saintathen herald conducted a poll on 17 March where the turnout was 15 individuals. The poll stated whether candidates would vote for Dzozyp Trick of Pars Tolerantia, Andrew Perdomo of the Christian Democrats, Silas Wurnbash of the Nationalist Left Party, or Christoph Billung who is running as an independent. The poll showed Andrw Perdomo in the lead, conforming with earlier projections and poll data, and showed secondary concentration with Trick. A later poll with 14 turnout showed a distribution of 9 votes to Perdomo and 5 votes to Trick.

Potential coalitions

Two parties, Tolerantia and the Christian Democratic Party have been proposed with coalitions, whilst the ideal has never been publicly announced by officials, it has been suggested by citizens, various leaders such as the Seneschal of Donnauberg, Alexander Drummont and Andrew Perdomo have reported that they are open to the idea.

Formation of the Progressive Alliance

On 1 April, Carpienteri joined the Laskaridian discord server and began to converse with citizens. Thomas Jacobs ridiculed his presence there. Further to the disgust of the members of Tolerantia Internationale, Carpienteri formed the Progressive Alliance, a left wing party. The party currently uses the ideologies of anti-authoritarianism and secularism, ideologies with Tolerantia is vehemently opposed to. The Progressive Alliance party has not currently contested the election in any form.
