The 2019 Play Books by-election was held on 27 April 2019 as part of the "Big Saturday" by-elections. The by-election resulted in a gain for the Labor Party of House Hold on a swing of 20%. Former Conservative Party MP Albany Bear ran as a candidate for the DBP. Prime Minister Sergio endorsed his candidacy for the electorate.
Background
At the April 2019 House Hold general election Conservative candidate Skeleton Dino was elected in two electorates and resigned the MP for Play Books because of this.
Candidates
Only three candidates stood in the by-election.
- Labor, former Labor party leader and Prime Minister Rufus Wolf stood as the candidate for the party. He was the sitting MP at the April 2019 election, however he lost the seat.
- Green, former Labor MP Rocky Woolly stood as the Green Party candidate.
- DBP, DBP leader, former Conservative MP and far-right talk show host Albany Bear was the party's candidate at the by-election.
- Conservative, Prime Minister Sergio supported Albany Bear.
- Independent, Horse Horse announced on 22 April he would contest the by-election but withdrew after Bear's announcement. He endorsed Rufus Wolf
