The Union of Mountain States was a fascist micronation consisting of ten states, with territory located in the US states of Montana and Rhode Island. It was officially formed on 11 April 2019 by President Hunt Powell The capital of the Union was Bighorn, located in the state of Eureka. The Union of Mountain States was a founding member and was a part of Vanguard League, UMS was also a member of the Micronational Assembly. It was officially dissolved on 3 March 2020.
Etymology
The name Union of Mountain States is based on the general mountainous region of Montana, and the fact that is a union of various states.
History
Pre-History and Early History
Beginnings of Union of Mountain States begin with two previous nations, both headed by Hunt Powell. The first nation was an extremely short-lived monarchy, due to no records being held at the time the estimated time of existence is considered to be around five days. A second state would be formed around November 2017, under the name Yellowstone Protectorate of Germany. YPG was based on German monarchist ideas, but would be disbanded sometime later. No official estimates on dissolution of YPG can be made. These two proto-nations would eventually lead to the formation of Union of Mountain States. UMS was originally named United Civil Sierra, the name would be changed later on. UMS would stay extremely isolated until 11 April 2019 when the first YouTube video was uploaded to the UMS channel. Three months later a military would be formed, the only branch being the military. The creation of the military would lead to a period of expansionism from the initial territory of UMS.
Valley Integration
The rapid expansionism of UMS southward caused irritation towards the Socialist Republic of Alkali and the Republic of Alcton. Both of these micronations protested the expansionist ideas of UMS, this caused tensions between Union Of Mountain States and the two micronations. This tension eventually caused UMS to declare war on the SRA and RA on 11 June 2019. Soldiers from the first infantry regiment would launch an attack 15 June into the Republic of Alcton. The RA would surrender on 15 June as they only had a single soldier. On 4 July, an assault was launched, using the un-associated fireworks of the 4th to attack into unmanned Alkali lines. This operation would cause the Socialist Republic of Alkali to surrender on 9 July 2019. The Valley Integration would end on 9 July 2019 with an official Union of Mountain States victory.
The Republic of Alcton would be split into Independent Kronstam and Reorganized Nationalist Alcton, with RNA being a vassal of UMS (later on RNA would be annexed and made into a state.) The Socialist Republic of Alkali would be fully annexed. This victory over the opposing nations allowed Union of Mountain States to rapidly expand, gaining Bruhl, Gully, Mahgogahbiland, the Yellowgrass territory, and eventually Alkali and Alcton.
Participation In North Divine War
The entry of Union of Mountain States into the North Divine war was officially 23 July 2019. This was mainly to support the United Ocean States, at the time known as the Union of Ocean States. Participation in the war was relatively not much, as UMS did not have anything to invade due to distance from North Divine. Union of Mountain States was not involved in the dictation of the peace treaty but accepted the surrender of North Divine.
Ernish-Mountain States War
On 24 August 2019, Ernland would declare war against UMS, the beginning of the Ernish-Mountain States War. Ernland's official reason for this was to "crush fascism." However, Ernland would drop out of the war the same day, later being coerced to rejoin the war after Craldonia declared war on UMS. The United Provinces of Natlin, the Kingdom of the Saugeen, and the United Ocean States would back the Union of Mountain States in the war against Ernland, with all of aforementioned declaring war on the 24th. The DPRK (otherwise known as Taedong) would declare war on UMS on the 25th, supporting Ernland's attempt to take down Union of Mountain States. The Republic of Larcon declared war on Ernland and Ernish allies on the 27 August, in support of UMS. On 28 August Craldonia signed a surrender document, being the first Ernish ally to drop out of the war. Another nation known as Johnny Land Juno Kingdom had not officially supported Ernland but did so after being raided by contingents from UPN and UOS. JLJK declared war against UMS, UPN, UOS, and Saugeen on 30 August.
Most of the conflict was fought online using demoralization tactics and infiltration, with there being 3 major raids on Ernish aligned nation's web-holdings. There was intelligence gathering done by both sides but UMS and its allies had the upper hand all throughout the war. The war would mainly be fought against Ernland, due to them being the nation that held out the longest against Union of Mountain States and other nations. Craldonia and Taedong dropped out relatively early in the war, with JLJK eventually surrendering 2 September because of a massive raid on his discord server Around about 6 October there would be a peace treaty between UMS and it's allies and Ernland. This peace treaty had no stipulations and was essentially just an end of hostilities. Since most of Ernland's allies had dropped out it was considered a victory for UMS and other nations, with the defeated nations having their reputation ruined. The war lasted 43 days in-total. Another result of the war was the creation of Vanguard League, this was mainly to combat communism.

To a lesser extent the Union would also form alliances with the Federation of East Michigan and the Republic of Larcon. Notable enemies of the Union in this era include the Ernish Union, the Republic of Craldonia, the Enclave of Taedong, the Johnny Land Juno Kingdom, and Prussina. The Union would also fight against North Divine, the United States of Qucker, and the Democratic People's Republic of Michigan. | Ocean States Political Turmoil | (15 November 2019 - 4 January 2020) | 50 days | This era is notable for the strained relations between the Union of Mountain States and United Ocean States due to political turmoil within Ocean States. Hunt P. whom was the vice-president of Ocean States was attempted to be removed by a non-citizen of Ocean States via a PT vote (essentially an impeachment.) This vote brought to attention numerous problems in the government of United Ocean States, which was pointed out by Hunt P. and Jakob Vancapelle. An attempt at a provisional government that would address a multitude of problems by Hunt P. and Vancapelle lead to the removal of Hunt from the vice presidency by Jaime P. After further turmoil and the creation of political parties, Hunt P. would be reinstated then would eventually resign. The Union severed ties with United Ocean States on January 3, but this decision would be revoked on the 4th. After the 4th tensions would cool down, but relations between Union of Mountain States and United Ocean States would begin to deteriorate once again shortly after. | None | ||
| Decline | (5 January 2020 - 3 March 2020) | 57 days | Union of Mountain States declined heavily in this era, leading to its' eventual dissolution. This era would see the Union fighting in the Echlin-Ocean States Wars, which heavily ruined relations with United Ocean States. The first Echlin war would see a victory for the Union, yet it signaled that Ocean States was an unreliable and often incompetent ally. A slight revival for the Union would come in the form of the Second Prussina War, but it generally did not help with the stagnation of Union of Mountain States. The Union officially ended relations with United Ocean States on February 14, 2020 due to the second Echlin war and a general lack of communications. Union of Mountain States occupied land given to Ocean States for a while, and released information that got United Ocean States removed from the Micronational Assembly. Politics and Government
Union of Mountain States is officially a Fascist government, with supreme power held by the President. Government offices are only present in Bannach and Bighorn as they are the most major cities present within the Mountain States. The President is responsible for enacting laws, managing foreign affairs, and is in-charge of most government processes. It is also expected of the President to participate in military activities and assaults. Union of Mountain States only had one official party, the Mountain States Blueshirt Party.
Law and Order
There was no official police force in Union of Mountain States, with the militia fulfilling the responsibility of maintaining order. Union of Mountain States had an extremely low crime rate, which was one of the main reasons why there was no official police force. There was no officially set up judiciary system.

The military of Union of Mountain States was composed of the Militia and the Foreign Legion. There were 2 regiments within the military, The 1st Infantry Regiment, and the 2nd Rifleman Regiment. Militia were recruited from UMS nationals and the Foreign Legion was comprised of soldiers not residing within UMS. Militia were allowed to wear civilian clothes, but were encouraged to wear clothes fit for combat. Weapons were encouraged to be brought in by individuals, but militia may be supplied with infantry weapons if needed. There was one general serving in the Military.

Geography and limate
Union of Mountain States had an extremely varying difference in Geography and Climate between the Western States and the Eastern States. The Western States lied within a large valley area, the entire area being shrub land with the exception of a few small marshes. Climate in the Western States had hot and arid temperatures during the summer, with cold and dry winters. Eastern portions of Union of Mountain States was made up from dense forests, with lots of biodiversity. The climate in the Eastern States was moderate, with humid summers.
