The Praetorian Prefecture of Pamphylia is an administrative division of the Empire of Imvrassia.

Etymology

The name Pamphylia comes from the Greek Παμφυλία, itself from Ancient Greek: πάμφυλος (pamphylos), literally "of mingled tribes or races", a compound of πᾶν (pan), neuter of πᾶς (pas) "all" + φυλή (phylē), "race, tribe". Herodotus derived its etymology from a Dorian tribe, the Pamphyloi (Πάμφυλοι).The tribe, in turn, was said to be named after Pamphylos (Greek: Πάμφυλος), son of Aigimios.
According to Encyclopædia Britannica, the Pamphylians were “a mixture of aboriginal inhabitants, immigrant Cilicians (Greek: Κίλικες) and Greeks”. However, Herodotus and Strabo record that the Pamphylians were descended from Greeks who came with Calchas and Amphilochos after the Trojan War. Aditionally, Pausanias states that they were a Greek race.

History

The Praetorian Prefecture of Pamphylia was created in order to include in an administrative unit all the territories of the empire that had been joined during the previous years. It is an attempt to emphasize the ability of the regions belonging to the empire to be able to maintain their special characteristics, both culturally and politically within the context of the operation of a Greek-centric state.

Politics

The Praetorian Prefecture of Pamphylia is an administrative division within the Empire.
The Praetorian Prefecture is under the direct jurisdiction of the Crown. A Praetorian Prefect is considered the highest dignitary and generally managing the day-to-day running of the Praetorian Prefecture.

Administrative Divisions

The administrative division of Pamphylia as a Praetorian Prefecture consists into three categories, the Provinces, the Exarchates and the Hegemonies.

  • Provinces: A Province is the basic territorial and administrative unit of Imvrassia and includes one or more territorial units. There is at least one residence, the capital of the administrative unit and there may be other administrative subdivisions. Each Province is generally governed by citizens with the title of Protosebastos/Protosebaste or Magistros/Pansebaste. The individual who exercise the power uses the title of Eponymous Archon. A Province can be divided into Archonties and the Eponymous Archon can be appoint to each Archontia an Archon with the title of Sebastos or Sebaste. For an Eponymous Archon there is an immediate assistant and deputy having the office of Chartoularios. Also if there are special reasons an administrative unit equal to the Province could be created by imperial degree.
  • Themes: A Theme is one of the two main subdivisions territorial and administrative unit of Imvrassia. There is at least one residence, the capital of the administrative unit and there may be other administrative subdivisions. Each Theme is generally governed by members of the Imperial House with the rank of Nobelissimos or Sebastokrator. The ruler of a Theme is called Governor and his immediate assistant and deputy has the office of Chartoularios. A Theme can be divided into Archonties and its Governor can appoint to each Archontia an Archon. The Theme usually has a house and land, while the Archonties can be either a house or a territory without population.
  • Exarchate : An Exarchate is a special semi-autonomous territorial and administrative unit of Imvrassia (usually a former inactive sovereign state or a group of Provinces) and has the full inner workings of government and on administrative issues. There is at least one residence, the capital of the administrative unit and there may be other administrative subdivisions. In an Exarchate is allowed the establishment and operation of a representative-public advisory body under the name of the House of Representatives. This body is under the chairmanship and responsibility of the Exarch, who is appointed by the Crown and has the title of Magistros. An Exarch is an official responsible for a polity in the name of and as the representative of the Crown of Imvrassia and is equivalent to the office of a viceroy. An Exarchate is divided into Provinces and the Exarch is able to appoint in each Province an Eponymous Archon. The Exarch's deputy has the office of Topoteretes and he may hold the title of Count or Protosebastos.

A Hegemony is an autonomous non-sovereign monarchy within the Empire, usually a former imperial state or a Kingdom and has its own monarch with the title of Sebastokrator or Megas Archon or Lord Paramount. A Hegemony has full inner workings of government and administrative issues, though united by allegiance to the Crown. The Hegemon has the right to be the head of his own dynasty and to create and give titles to his relatives, to his officials and to his nobles. The administrative division of the Hegemony follows the local political tradition. Also a Hegemon is the head of the government of his domain or he can appoint his/her deputy with the title of Topoteretes to run the Hegemony's government. The official style of a Hegemon is His/Her Royal Highness Sebastokrator/Sebastokrateira (name), Hegemon of (name of the Hegemony) or His/Her Grace the Megas Archon/Megali Archontissa (name), Hegemon of (name of the Hegemony) or His/Her Grace (name), the Lord Paramount/Lady Paramount of (name of the Hegemony). The title of a Hegemon as a monarch in his own right comes immediately after that of a Co-Emperor, but isn't considered superior to the title of Caesar/Augusta because the latter belongs to the Heir to the Throne. Also the Heir of the Hegemony has the title of Diadochos.

Demographics and culture

As of February 2023, Imvrassia has an estimated population of 44 spread across its territories in Greece, Iberia and Germany. The Crown and the Government of Imvrassia have adopted as an official principle of policy that Imvrassia continues the Hellenistic and Roman tradition and by extension consider Imvrassia successor of the Hellenistic kingdoms and the Roman Empire. This view is based on facts such as that Imvrassia's declaration of independence held on 11 May, the same day as Constantinople was declared the new capital of the Roman Empire, that is a micronation whose sovereignty extends in regions of the Eastern Roman Empire, the official language is Hellenic (Greek), ie the language spoken by its inhabitants as well as those in the Eastern Roman Empire and finally by the monarchical regime.

Religion

Religion in Imvrassia is dominated by the Greek Orthodox Church, which is within the larger communion of the Eastern Orthodox Church and it represented almost the total population. Since its founding, Imvrassia has pursued a policy of guaranteeing freedom of religious belief for all, respecting the religious beliefs and cultural tradition of its citizens.

Citizenship

The Empire of Imvrassia accepts new citizens and awards them the title of Sebastos and Sebaste of Imvrassia, if they wish. If they do not want a title of nobility, they merely request citizenship and participate in the public life of the State.
