Valenowa, officially the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa, was a micronation located within central Wisconsin, United States. It was a self-declared, unrecognized dependency of the Republic of Poland. The Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa declared independence from the United States on 12 June 2023, and lacked any formal recognition from the United Nations or the governments of any sovereign states.

History

Background

The Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa declared independence from the Republic of Poland on 15 September 2023, following the dissolutions of the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk and the Greater Kingdom of Naprzódsk. The state was succeeded by the Republic of Valenowa on 23 February 2024.

Early history

The Dawidziak family, formerly the Royal House of Dawidziak-Valenski, are the current legal owners of the roughly 128 acres of land that the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa sat (and that the Republic of Valenowa now sits) upon. The first records of Dawidziak ownership of the land date to the early 20th century, when the family immigrated to the United States from Rzeszów, Poland. They then built the main house of the property, Castle Zamorski, named for the maiden surname of Emilie Dawidziak.

Industrialization

Throughout the mid-20th century, the land purchased by the Dawidziaks, known locally as Lake View Farm, began a stage of rapid industrialization due to the sudden need for mass quantities of agricultural goods during and after World War Two. Telegraph wires were laid across the land, as well as an advanced irrigation system powered by a large generator and pump in a boathouse near the edge of nearby Buffalo Lake.

In addition, several loading docks for semi trucks were constructed, as well as a tractor shed, an ice house, a well, and various smaller buildings for produce processing. This industrialization was short-lived, however, as mass production and factory processed goods gained popularity in the late 1950s and early 1960s. This, combined with the fact that the farm's supporting township, Montello, was quickly losing its economic relevancy (granite mining) as well, caused buildings to be abandoned, machinery to be left to rust, and land to be left untended and unused. This new stage of dormancy lasted until roughly 25 August 2020, when the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk was officially founded and development began again.

Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk

On 25 August 2020, Michał II Dawidziak, heir to the micronational throne of the Kingdom of Maltby, declared the creation of the former Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk, laying claim to the Dawidziak-owned land at Lake View Farm and intending to develop it for more efficient use. Throughout its existence, the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk saw multiple conflicts including the Almendrian Civil War (indirectly), and the Nexan War. The GDN assisted in the breakdown of the Almendrian Discord Server through espionage, and was one of the key elements that sparked the Almendrian Imperial Revolution, creating the Empire of Almendria.

In addition to this, the GDN successfully began restoration work on Fort Bołchidów and Fort Sobieski in early 2021, which is ongoing through the current Valenian Remilitarization Program. It also brought in funds through agricultural exports, which were utilized on infrastructural building material, equipment, and uniforms for the former Napranian Royal Defense Corps (now the Polonian Legion).

Prior to its dissolution, the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk was elevated to the status of Kingdom by Michał II Dawidziak of Naprzódsk on 22 May 2023, following merger negotiations with the Nexan Republic, which broke down completely prior to the Nexan Collapse.

Polonian Presidential Dependency

The creation of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa was declared on 25 May 2023, formed from the remains of the Greater Kingdom of Naprzódsk as an unrecognized dependency of the Republic of Poland. Though the dependency remained a free market economy, the former semi-constitutional monarchy had been replaced in favor of a unitary parliamentary republic, headed secondarily by the Governer-General of Valenowa, and primarily by the President of Poland. However, shortly after its foundation this would change, placing the Governor-General of Valenowa as the head of government.

Etymology

The Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa, commonly shortened to Valenowa, gains its name from the original capital city of the former Greater Kingdom of Naprzódsk, the Royal City of Valen. However, since its dissolution, the town atop Sobieski Hill has overtaken it as the area's foremost settlement, and it was named Valenowa, which translates to New (nowa) Valen in early 2023. The Presidential Dependency of Valenowa is referred to as "Polonian" due to the nature of the word meaning a person or people of Polish descent living outside of Poland, and is representative of the idea that all Valenian citizens are a culturally and nationally Polish people living abroad.

Geography

The capital of the PPDV was located near the Township of Montello in Wisconsin, United States, in a temperate climate zone. It sat atop large glacial mineral and granite deposits, in an area locally referred to as the "Great Sands," due to its overly sandy soil composition. The former official government residence, Castle Zamorski, is located within the current Valenian federal district of Valen, bordered by the United States to the North and East, and by the greater territories of the PPDV to the South, and West.

The total territorial claims of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa were around 128 acres, or 0.52 square kilometers, which included 6 lesser administrative provinces called Voivodeships, 3 exclusion zones called Strefy wykluczenia, and one federal district called a Dzielnica.

Politics

The Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa was governed as a Unitary parliamentary republic under a semi-constitutional hereditary technocracy. Michał Dawidziak was the only Governor-General of Valenowa.

The Valenian government operated in accordance with the Charter of the Intermicronational Court, with a hereditary/appointed heir to the Governorship whose power was limited by the Constitution of Valenowa. The Governor-General of Valenowa oversaw all happenings within the micronation, including those of the Sejm of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa, and those of the High Judiciary of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa. In addition, the Governor-General of Valenowa also acted as Commander-in-Chief of the Polonian Legion, and held total command over both the Polonian Legion and the gendarmerie of Valenowa.

Legislature

The Sejm of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa acted as the nation's legislative body, serving to politically represent each region's citizens. The Sejm passed, revised, and drafted new laws and statutes, and had the authority to declare war, sue for peace, and draft treaties. Representatives were elected by popular vote by the citizens of a given region, and must have also hailed from that region themselves. There were two Representatives for each Voivodeship, and each Representative served a term limit of 2 years before a new election was held. The Grand Master of the Sejm served as the head of and director of the Sejm, second only to the Governor-General of Valenowa.

Justice system

The High Judiciary of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa was the highest court within the Valenowa Commune, and held jurisdiction over all regions and citizens of Valenowa. It operated under the High Judiciary of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa, and was headed primarily by the High Justice of Valenowa, a position appointed by the Governor-General. 6 Justices operated under the High Justice, one for each Voivodeship, which followed the same election process, term limits, and eligibility requirements as a Representative within the Sejm.

Foreign relations

The Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa recognized the vast majority of macronations in the world, with some minimal exceptions. In addition to this, its government officially recognized a number of micronations and lesser-recognized states, and had official diplomatic relations with several other micronations. The Valenian government was known to be closed-off in terms of diplomacy, however it was also known to accept requests for aid or defensive pacts from micronations with more serious intentions of independence. In accordance with the Constitution of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa, the Valenian government would not engage in any manner with any state it views as fascist or stalinist, and openly encouraged peaceful resistance against both.

The Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa held a seat in the Intermicronational Court, granted on 26 October 2023. The former Governor-General, Michał Dawidziak, continues to serve as a Justice within the organization.
