Moritaiva (/mɔːrɪtɑːɪvə/; Japanese: モリタイバ Moritaiba; Ukrainian: Морітаїва) is the current administrative capital of the Federal Republic of Forestia, and the seat of government of the state of Vale Plano. Established on 1 July 2024, it is located in the mountains of Brazil's Center-West region, being surrounded by hills and forests. The area which comprises the city, part of Sobradinho, was originally inhabited in the early 1960s by farmers in the region and many workers responsible for the construction of Brasilia, and was integrated into Forestia on 1 June 2024. It has a tropical savanna climate, and has an average temperature of 21.4 °C. It's name and symbols are largely inspired by Japanese cultural elements, such as the cherry blossom's pink on the city flag.
Etymology
The term Moritaiva is a combination of Mori (森) (Japanese for forest) and Taivas (Finnish for mountain), the name was chosen due to the city's surroundings.
History
Before integration
During the construction of Brasilia, between 1956 and 1960, one of the directors of Novacap (Companhia Urbanizadora da Nova Capital), federal deputy Iris Meinberg, who had been president of the National Confederation of Agriculture had the idea of creating a typically rural city in the Federal District. The best option was to settle the new city in the region of Sobradinho, which traditionally developed agricultural activities since the time of its first occupants.
Integration
The territory comprising Moritaiva was initially occupied on 1 June 2024, but is only set to become the de facto capital on 1 August.
