Elected Chair

Ibraheem I
Shaheenistan

An election was held to elect the first elected Chair of the Organization of Islamic Micronations (OIM). Incumbent Chair Ibraheem I of Shaheenistan defeated incumbent Secretary-General Saleh A.H of Olov by 5 votes.

Background

The 2nd Charter of the Organization of Islamic Micronations (OIM) was passed on 23 June 2024 on the General Assembly of the OIM. The charter opened the opportunity for elections in the OIM. According to the charter, elections should be happened before June 30. One day after passing the charter, Showib Ahmmed of Imruland was appointed as the Chief Justice of the OIM.[1] He announced the commencement of the election shortly after the appointment.[2]

Electoral system

The Chair is elected by direct vote of the full member states of the Organization of Islamic Micronations (OIM). The OIM had 18 full members before starting the elections. Every nation has only one vote. The election is administered by the Chief Justice of the OIM. If he is a candidate or unavailable, the most senior available justice who is not a candidate will administer the election. If all justices are candidates or unavailable, then the Chair will nominate a delegate as election administrator who is not a candidate. The delegate becomes the administrator if they are confirmed by the General Assembly.[1] There are two executive terms per year: the first term is from 1 January to 30 June, and the second term is from 1 July to 31 December. A delegate cannot serve as Chair for more than two consecutive terms. Any full member delegate can run for the post of Chair. More than one delegate from a state cannot run for the election.[3]

The schedule of the election was announced by Chief Justice Showib Ahmmed on 25 June 2024.[4] He announced to hold elections from 28-30 June.
