Foreign relations of the Basileia of the Romans are accomplished by efforts of the Office of the Megas Logothetes (Roman Greek: Ὀφφίκιον Μεγάλου Λογοθέτου, Modern Greek: Γραφείο Μεγάλου Λογοθέτη), a post adopted from Eastern Roman governmental structure and occupied by the person selected by the Basileus and Autokrator of the Romans. Currently, Rhomania holds diplomatic relations with 7 states, while also being a member of two intermicronational organizations.

Rhomania currently maintains excellent relations with the Kingdom of Pangration, with which it borders, the Governorate of Græcia and the Empire of Imvrassia, all of which are parts of the Greek micronational sector. Rhomania also has close relations with the Empire of Austenasia, the State of Vishwamitra and the members of the League of Hellenistic Micronations.

Foreign policy of the Basileia has been characterised as isolationist and being mainly focused on the Greek sector. Rhomania is also avoidant of membership in intermicronational organisations and the creation of such, seeking instead to be part of objectively necessary associations, as is the League of Hellenistic Micronations and the Based Commonwealth.

History

Rhomania was late in seeking diplomatic relations with foreign nations: Although being established as the Kingdom of Mouzilo in May 2012, the state didn't strike its first diplomatic treaty until September that year, when the first treaty with Imvrassia was signed. Since then, a number of treaties have been signed both with nations that no longer exist and nations with which mutual relationships have ceased. Between 2014 and 2017, the foreign policy of Mouzilo was managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ashukovo, of which Mouzilo was a constituent state.

Macronational relations

Rhomania currently holds no relations with any UN member state. Despite this, the Basileia recognises almost all of its members, with the exception of:

Rhomania retracted its recognition of the Hellenic Republic, as Greece is formally named, on January 3rd, 2021, following actions by its President, Mrs. Aikaterini Sakellaropoulou, which were deemed "un-national". Instead, the Basileia considers the 1974 referendum on the Greek form of Government null and void, thus to the Romaean legal view, Greece maintains its Monarchy in exile, which, according to our Romaean Fundamental Laws regarding Imperial succession, is placed under the jurisdiction of the Basileus of the Romans. Thus, to the Romaean point of view, the Kingdom of Greece is still extant. The Hellenic Republic also maintains a dispute with Rhomania over lands in the Greek mainland under Romaean control.
Israel is not recognised by Rhomania on the basis of it being a terrorist state.
Recognition of The Ukraine ceased on February 15, 2021, following the murder of two Greeks and injury of two others in the village of Granitna in Eastern Ukraine by Ukrainian soldiers over "a trivial matter". Rhomania maintains that the native ethnic Greeks of Ukraine (numbering about 100.000 people) have been under persecution by both the Ukrainian State and Azov Battalion militias for their closer ties with the Russian-speaking community.

In addition to the UN member states above, several non UN nations are also recognised by Rhomania:

Notes and references

  1. Rhomania officially prefers using the tricolour co-official flag of Transnistria in reference to that state, on the basis that the bicolour flag makes decorative use of the communist hammer and sickle emblem, an ideology banned in Rhomania since 2013.
