The Republic of Sheepland, more commonly known as Sheepland, is a micronation that seeks to become a sovereign state through the construction of artificial islands in international waters. Sheepland was founded in the United States. However, it currently holds no territory[3]. It was originally started as a simulationist Democratic Socialist experiment. Sheepland now seeks to establish an Eco-Socialist government with some Sheeplandic variations, sometimes known as Sheepism. It seeks to use Eco-Socialism to establish a self-sufficient and carbon neutral island nation to act as an escape from the overwhelmingly capitalist-dominated world.
The government of Sheepland currently consists of a president with unchecked power that has direct control over all of the ministries of Sheepland. Sheepland plans that in the future when there are enough citizens, it will establish a parliament. Sheepland is Socialist, Anti-Capitalist, and Anti-Fascist. Sheepland is pacifist, and wishes to stay out of conflicts when possible. Due to its anti-imperialist stance, Sheepland is pro-Palestine and condemns Israel for its genocide of the Palestinian people. Sheepland is attempting to have good relations with other micronations, and is currently seeking mutual recognition from other micronations. Sheepland does not plan to interfere with the governments of other countries.
Etymology
The name "Sheepland" originated from the name of a sheep farm idea by the founder and president of Sheepland. See History for more information on this. The name's meaning has morphed into a metaphor for the care towards animals and the environment, which is one of Sheepland's core ideas. Sheepland is also the name of a British sheepskin slipper company. However, due to strict animal welfare laws in Sheepland, most sheepskin items are somewhat ironically banned[4].
The names "Republic of Sheepland" and "Eco-Socialist Republic of Sheepland" are both co-official names and can be used interchangeably.
The official name for Sheepland in Japanese is エコ社会主義羊国 (ëco-shakai shugi hitsuji-koku) or 羊国 (hitsuji-koku) in short.

The demonyms of Sheepland are Sheeplandic and Sheeplander.
Sheeplandic is used as a adjective. (to describe something or someone). Examples: I am Sheeplandic. (Sheeplandic describes I) This is a Sheeplandic banknote. (Sheeplandic describes the banknote)
Sheeplander is used as a noun, almost always referring to a person or people. Examples: I am a Sheeplander. 100% of Sheeplanders agree that healthcare should be free.
History

Sheepland so far has four distinct historical eras:
Before the formation of Sheepland
The earliest mention of Sheepland dates back to December of 2022, when Koji had the idea of starting a sheep farm with the name of Sheepland. The idea slowly morphed into an idea for a digital micronation with moderate democratic socialist ideals, but still based on a sheep farm. Eventually, Koji got the idea that building an artificial island in international waters would be a better idea since Sheepland could then have greater autonomy and not be restricted by the laws of a host macronation. While the original sheep farm idea for Sheepland originated simply from Koji's desire to have sheep, as the idea evolved from a farm to an independent island country, so did the core ideals and goals of Sheepland. Sheepland became an idea for simulating a Democratic Socialist country without corruption, and an escape from the capitalist world. Its goals became mainly Workers' and Animals' rights and environmental preservation.
Era of Creation
The time period from July through October of 2023 was marked with the creation of Sheepland and its initial rapid development.
Sheepland was founded on 11 July 2023 by Koji as a digital micronation. It did not have territory at the time of founding, and as of 2024, it is still considered non-territorial. In October of 2023, Sheepland was recognized by Aeternia. Later in 2023, Sheepland officially changed its government structure from Democratic Socialism to Eco-Socialism, as Eco-socialism included extra emphasis on environmental protections.
Era of Stagnation
The time period from November 2023 through April 2024 was marked with very slow if not nonexistent development, with Sheepland gaining no new allies or citizens, and its website and MicroWiki were rarely updated. Its economy also stagnated, with no GDP growth during this era.
Era of Increased Development
The time period from March 2024 until the present. Sheepland finally made it out of stagnation, with major development happening during this era. Sheepland gained its second citizen, gained many new allies, enacted a currency reform, and created the first broadcast of the Sheeplandic Broadcasting Service (SBS) during this era.
March 2024
On 15 March 2024, Sheepland gained its second citizen. Their identity currently remains confidential.
On 22 March 2024, Sheepland becomes allies with the Kingdom of Santa Fe.
May 2024
On 26 May 2024, Sheepland becomes allies with the Republic of Mailenga.
On 28 May 2024, Sheepland enacts a currency reform to try to fix its stagnating economy.
On 30 May 2024, Sheepland almost cuts off its alliance with the Kingdom of Santa Fe due to a political misunderstanding, which was later corrected. On this same day, Sheepland also became allies with the People's Socialist Republic of Breta.
On 31 May 2024, Sheepland releases the first broadcast of the Sheeplandic Broadcasting Service. (SBS)
June 2024
On 17 June 2024, Sheepland transitioned from a one-party system to a no-party system.
On 20 June 2024, Sheepland became allies with the United Oregon Republic
On 27 June 2024, Sheepland officially changed flags.
July 2024
On 11 July 2024, Sheepland celebrated its 1 year founding day.
On 21 July 2024, Sheepland established mutual recognition with the Pearson Republic.
On 23 July 2024, Sheepland established mutual recognition with the UASSR. On the same day, it also updated the requirements for diplomatic relations.
August 2024
On 6 August 2024, the President of Sheepland signed the Treaty of Stinkston with the Pearson Republic. The purpose of the treaty is to "establish a mutual friendship".
Future plans
Sheepland plans to establish an expatriate government[5] building within the US sometime in the future, in order to gain citizens and funding for the construction of artificial islands.
Politics and government
Sheepland's politics are relatively simple, since there are no political parties by law and the politics of Sheepland are defined in its constitution. Article VI of the Sheeplandic Constitution explains that Sheepland shall have an Eco-Socialist government. Sheepland currently has a president with absolute power, but has no parliament yet. Once there are enough citizens, there will be a parliament.
President
The president currently holds absolute power over the Sheeplandic government. The president is Koji.
Parliament
Sheepland is yet to have a parliament, however, there will be one once there are enough citizens.
Political parties
Formerly, Sheepland was a one party state with the only legitimate political party in Sheepland being the Socialist Party of Sheepland (SPS). On 17 June 2024, it was abolished by the president to transition Sheepland from a one-party system to a no-party system, with many goals including politicians being chosen by their goals and not by which party they belong to, reducing the chances of corruption occurring within the Sheeplandic Government, and to avoid being seen as an authoritarian state due to only having one political party. Sheepland remains Eco-Socialist due to its constitution.
Law and order
There are not very many laws in Sheepland yet due to it's lack of territory. A notable part of the law enforcement system is that the Death Penalty is banned, due to many reasons including the potential for an innocent person to be falsely convicted of a crime.
Military
Sheepland currently has no military as it has no territory to protect.
Ministries and Departments
Sheepland currently only has the Ministry of Taxation and Government Expenditure and the Energy Department, but it is set to have more in the near future.
Ministry of Taxation and Government Expenditure
The Ministry of Taxation and Government Expenditure is responsible for taxation and government expenditure in the Republic of Sheepland. It was established on 11 August 2023 under the Internal Revenue Ministry Act. It was originally called the Ministry of Internal Revenue, but was renamed to the Ministry of Taxation and Government Expenditure on 31 March 2024 to avoid it being confused with the Internal Revenue Service of the Unites States. Sheepland currently collects a 10% tax on all of its physical citizens.
Energy Department
The Energy Department of Sheepland is responsible for inventing new clean energy ideas and implementing them in Sheepland.
Citizenship
Sheepland has three types of citizenship, Digital Citizen, Hybrid Citizen and Physical Citizen. Applying for citizenship is relatively easy, and can be done through this form.
Digital Citizenship
Digital Citizens do not have any obligations, and digital citizenship is mostly symbolic. However, it may help in the future if Sheepland's immigration rules become stricter. Digital citizens are not taxed, and can not vote.
Hybrid Citizenship
A hybrid citizenship is a good type of citizenship for someone who is thinking of moving to Sheepland in the near-future. They can live mainly or completely in another country, and can be taxed by Sheepland at a lower rate. They automatically become Physical Citizens after living in Sheepland for 1 year, while being away for no more than 4 months.
Physical Citizenship
Physical citizens live in Sheepland and can vote in elections. They can be taxed at the full rate decided by the government. The only way to get Physical citizenship is to start as a Hybrid citizen and become a Physical Citizen by the method above, unless the president grants it directly.

Sheepland has no administrative regions as it is currently has no territory.
Economy
Sheepland uses the Sheeplandic Pound as its currency, which is pegged at 50 Sheeplandic Pounds per gram of gold. Currently, Sheepland's GDP comprises entirely of digital music sales, and is a tiny 197 Sheeplandic Pounds. The president composes music which is available on iTunes/Apple Music and Spotify. Listening to this music helps the Sheeplandic economy. Sheepland is currently looking to diversify and grow its economy and it is considering options such as renewable energy export and Sheepland themed merchandise.
Culture
The people of Sheepland care deeply about the environment and animal rights, and generally don't believe in religion. Sheepland uses the Holocene calendar since the beginning of the Holocene is seen as a universally applicable time that transcends the boundaries of religion and ethnicity. English is the national language, and it is also the most spoken language in Sheepland. Eco-Socialism is also part of the culture of Sheepland. Most Socialist music is considered patriotic, with the exception of music from countries claiming to be socialist that are now predominantly capitalist like Сhinа. Sheeplandic ideals of Socialism are similar to Yugoslavia but with less emphasis on markets.
Anthem
The national anthem of Sheepland is The Internationale. It currently has no official lyrics in Sheepland, although there are some unofficial lyrics that originally went with the song. There may be official lyrics in the future, although there are currently no such plans.
Holidays
This is a list of holidays celebrated in Sheepland. A rule of thumb for Sheeplandic holidays is that there is roughly one holiday per month. Some of these days are fillers in order to meet the 1 holiday per month requirement, and they may be changed in the future. NH indicates a national holiday where people are off from work and school.

Notes
1.^ When Sheeplandic or Sheeplander is used as an ethnicity, it usually refers to Sheeplandic Citizens who no longer identify with the culture or beliefs of their country of origin, and agree more with Sheeplandic culture and customs. It also may refer to native-born Sheeplanders.
2.^ Due to the politics of Sheepland and the provisional location of its government in the United States, Sheepland currently claims no territory that the US also claims to avoid being falsely seen as a separatist movement.
3.^ Most items that require the killing of a sentient animal would violate Article I of the Sheeplandic Constitution, and are thus banned from Sheepland.
4.^ An expatriate government is a government located outside of its territory. In this case, Sheepland plans to build a government building in the US while not claiming the land that it is on due to the reason listed on note 2. Since the government building would be located outside of Sheepland's (currently non-existent) territorial claims, it would be an expatriate government building. This building would function partly as a consulate for any Sheeplandic citizens living in the area.
5.^ Sheepland's expatriate government uses DST to avoid confusion with the US, contrary to Sheepland's official policy of not using DST. In the future, if Sheepland chooses the Grand Banks of Newfoundland as the location for its artificial island(s), its time zone would likely be GMT-3 year-round.
