The Deputy Prime Minister of Agatonia (Agatonian: vaukuragikurái agatoniánn) is the deputy to the Prime Minister of Agatonia and the third-most senior minister in the Agatonian Government. although this seniority does not necessarily translate into power. The office was created by the nomination of Manuel Shikakata as Deputy Prime Minister. The officeholder usually deputises for the Prime Minister at official functions. Power definition of the Deputy Prime Minister shall probably be stated in the further review of the Agatonian Constitution of 2024 on 18 November 2024.
The current Deputy Prime Minister is Manuel Shikakata, member of the Party of Infrastructure and Development. Shikakata deputises for PM Mūta Ushiyori, although not being in the same party, who leads the 2nd government, confirmed by the 1st Parliament.
Role
The role of the Deputy Prime Minister has changed over the course of Agatonian history. Although Agatonia has always been a de jure parliamentary democracy, the President previously held a more active role than other political divisions, thus sometimes being considered as a de facto dictatorship. Presently, the political power of the Deputy Prime Minister has been considerably moderated with the adoption of the new constitution, namely the Agatonian Constitution of 2024, but the general public's perception of the head of government remains similar to that of a head of state in presidential democracies. The Agatonian Constitution of 2024 defines the role of the Prime Minister in article 2d and 3h.
The Deputy Prime Minister is always a plush toy, as the President, the second head of government, must be a human, and plush toys are barred from serving as president. This is also the same as the Monarch of Agatonia; plush toys are also barred from serving as Monarch.
The Deputy Prime Minister was introduced for the first time on 4 November 2024, after President Kaito I nominated Manuel Shikakata as Deputy Prime Minister. Empress Sachiko I is the single and foremost supporter of Shikakata.
