TPC (Welsh pronunciation: [ˌtiː ˌpiː ˈɛk], Teledu Preifat Cwnpan, English: Conpani Private Television (CPT)) is a Welsh language Conpani television channel. It is Conpan’s first and only television service.

History

TPC was founded and first broadcast by Briallen Tremberth in Trependeryn (the capital city of Gwladcoeden) on 10 March 2022 under the name Teledu Preifat. The first broadcast started at 23:45 GMT and signed on with a modified version of Test Card W without a logo, programming consisted of the national anthems Gwladcoeden and Cycoldia with their flags displayed then signed off with a black screen with a moon graphic that said: ‘Nos da / -Teledu Preifat’ The broadcast lasted approximately 15 minutes, but TPC archives only recorded the last 8 minutes of the broadcast.

On 12 March 2022, TeleduPreifat opened its Discord channel. It began broadcasts of SpongeBob SquarePants (Welsh: SpynjBob Pantsgwâr) and the first season of Micro High. On the same day, TeleduPreifat, based in Europe, changed its test card from the modified version of Test Card W to the EBU test card.

Commissions and original productions

Europa

Teledu Peifat, as part of a rebranding to TeleduPreifat, commissioned Europa to create the the first logo. Several versions were created and a final version that was settled on was a design featuring a globe (similar to that of MicroWiki) and Helvetica font; the text on the logo with the new name: ‘TeleduPreifat’ Test Card W was modified to display the new logo and a new timetable graphic was created, displaying the logo and a photo of a triple rainbow.

Studio21

Studio21, an Aenopian production company, is responsible for supplying some programmes to TPC.

On 13 March, TeleduPreifat’s first news segment, Newyddion TeleduPreifat (NTP), premiered;[1] it was produced by Studio21 for TeleduPreifat. The channel also commissioned Studio21 to design a new logo and idents for their rebrand to TPC on 16 March 2022; the current logo, design, and graphics were trialled in a broadcast on 21 March 2022 before it was implemented.[2]

Studio21 also produces news idents and has produced documentaries to air on TPC.

Other

TPC obtained the licence to broadcast the first series of Dragonfly Studio’s Fight of Gods. It was shortly cancelled after the first episode due to poor reception.

TPC obtained the licence to TVRuisseau to stimiulcast the channel under Bloc TVR.

TPC, in cooperation with Studio21 The Trependeryn Times, produced Archwilio’r Ffeithiau (English: Checking the Facts), a radio news segment narrated by The Trependeryn Times journalist Mihangel ap Gareth where news sources and their articles are reviewed for their biases. Its ident, inspired by synthwave idents on news programmes, was produced by Studio21.

Controversy

The Fesmarian Review scandal

On 11 April 2022, The Fesmarian Review's first bulletin[3] received backlash Alliance of the Micronations (AOTM) and was accused of defamation by President Matthew Tonna of Melite when reporting on his losing a court case in the AOTM. The bulletin was also criticized for its use of emotionally loaded language to glorify Fesmar. TPC confirmed a like-dislike ratio of 30%-70% for the video. An Archwilio'r Ffeithiau episode[4] was created in response to the backlash, which declared the bulletin as 'biased', using emotionally loaded language, and 'only partially stating quotes' to push a narrative.

Radio TPC launch

On 15 April 2022, Radio TPC premiered after a 30 minute delay at 10:30pm GMT, but was delayed again after an instantaneous equipment crash. Radio TPC, Conpan's first radio station, suffered buffering and delays before it finished broadcasting for the day. The radio had peak ratings of 5 viewers. Most issues that occurred in the launch were later fixed with the premier of Radio Glasurol TPC.
