The September 2024 Austenasian general election was the ninth general election held in Austenasia, and the second general election held in 2024, after the resignation of the previous Prime Minister, Lord John Gordon.
Background
The September 2024 General Election was prompted following the resignation of Lord John Gordon, Viscount of Thetford as Prime Minister on 22 July 2024. Upon resigning, Lord Gordon appointed Lady Addison O'Halloran, Baroness of Blue Ridge as acting Prime Minister until a general election could be called.
Several days of silence followed with no word from anyone on the current situation. Upon discovering Lord Gordon's resignation, Deputy Prime Minister Lord Andrew Creed, Baron of Corinium Terentium realized that he was actually acting Prime Minister. Thus a constitutional crisis had been created. Lord Creed stated that he was the true acting Prime Minister and declared any descisions made by Lady O'Halloran in those past few day were null and void.[1]
From here acting Prime Minister Creed gathered Parliament together to establish a timeline for the upcoming election. Shiro Mephistopheles was appointed acting Deputy Prime Minister during this time.
Upon announcement of the upcoming election, two candidates came forward and were approved by the Regent, Lord Andrew Creed, and Lord Hunter Prater, Duke of Dixie.
Prior to the allotted time for campaigning, Prater and Creed engaged in some heated arguments and illegal campaigning. A citing error in an older version of the constitution also lead to confusion over Prater’s eligibility to run for Prime Minister. A solution was created by reappointing Prater to Parliament, but it was too late; Prater had already decided to drop out of the race and retire from frontline politics.
Following this, Lady Addison O’Halloran stepped up as a candidate. Despite this, she still encouraged everyone to vote for Creed.
Lord Creed was the only candidate to really participate in the campaign trail, participating in interviews and engaging with the public.
