The Peerage of Ameristralia is a hereditary distinction within the Ameristralian nobility that was established on 3 September 2021, when The Sovereign Municipality of Ameristralia declared independence from the Commonwealth of Australia.

The Peerage of Ameristralia is similar to the British peerage, without the noble ranks of Marquis and Viscount. Peerages are created by the sovereign of Ameristralia; the Lord Mayor, like all crown honours, being affirmed by letters patent affixed with the Seal of The Sovereign Municipality of Ameristralia.

There are certain personal privileges afforded to all peers and peeresses, but the main distinction is the title and style accorded each.

Ranks

Peers are of three ranks, in descending order of hierarchy:

  • Duke, comes from the Latin dux, meaning Leader. The feminine form is Duchess. The first Duke in the Ameristralia peerage is the Duke of Harkness.
  • Earl, comes from the Old English eorl, meaning a military leader. The meaning may have come from the Old Norse jarl, which mean free-born warrior or nobleman. There is no feminine form, so 'Countess' is used.
  • Baron, comes from the Old Germanic baro, meaning "freeman." The feminine form is 'Baroness.'

Form of title

The titles of peers are in the form of "(Rank) (TitleName)" or "(Rank) of (TitleName)." The name of the title can either be a place name or a surname.

Styles and titles

Dukes use His Grace and the other peers use The Right Honourable. Peeresses (whether they hold a peerage in their own right or are the wives of peers) use equivalent styles.

In speech, any peer, except a Duke or Duchess, is referred to as Lord X or Lady X. The exception is a Baroness in her own right, who may be called Baroness X but Lady X is also appropriate.

Precedence

Peers are entitled to special precedence due to their rank.

The Sovereign, as fount of honours, has the ability to change the precedence of peers, at their will.

Peers in the Ameristralian system precede knights, dames, and companions of the various dynastic orders.
