The November 2022 Pinangese general election was held between 12 and 13 November 2022 to elect the President of the Republic and four senators. Former president Tobey Wyles of didn’t run for a second consecutive term as President. Rafaela Luiz has been elected fifth president.

Background

Presidential election

Under the section 3 of the Article 9 of the Constitution of Pinang, the President is elected to a four-months term in a two-round election. If no candidate takes 50.1% of votes in the first round, a second round is held a week later between the two candidates who received the most votes. In case of a tie in the second round, the assembly of the republic is convened to elect one of the tied candidates as president.

Senatorial election

The four senators are elected through the Single transferable vote system.
