The National Unity Party (NUP or PUN) is the ruling party of the Cascadian Democratic Republic. It was formed as a merger of the Cascadian Socialist Party, Cascadian Liberal Democratic Party, and Cascadian National Union Party. The party maintains a de facto one-party democratic socialist rule over the country and is composed of 3 blocs: the Marxist Bloc, the Socialist Bloc, and the Liberal Bloc.
Platform
The National Unity Party is based on the ideas that power is derived from the people and the individual cities and states up. This ideal of decentralization is reflected in the party structure. The NUP also believes that the national working class is what comprises the state's existence and national identity and therefore equality of all Cascadians regardless of sentience, religion, race, sex, gender, etc. is the foundations for democracy. It also believes in the ideals of national self reliance, taking upon the ideals of the Socialist Party concept of "democratic Juche." While the Party does not explicitly support the North Korean regime or its ideology, it believes its idea of Juche ("self-relaince") can still be applied under a democratic system as its goal is to motivate the working class and the state apparatus as a whole to achieve a system of true self-governance and lack of dependence on others. This is part of a bigger ideal of Cascadian nationalism and promotion of patriotism through a socialist system, pride in its unique Celtic culture, and its motivation to maintain the state itself and it's right to exist. Economically, the Party believes in a united national commitment to fight greed and corruption by maintaining a national wealth distribution to all citizens through market socialism and socialist economic models. In its commitment to environmental protection, the NUP emphasizes a nationalized commitment to ecological regulation and improvement.
Structure
The National Unity Party is unified and relies on the compliance of participation of its members and the three individual blocs that comprise it: the Marxist Bloc, the Socialist Bloc, and the Liberal Bloc. Each Bloc elects their own General Secretaries and Deputies who are members of the 10-man Party Central Committee, with the General Secretaries being members of the 5-man Politburo. Each General Secretary runs for the Presidency of the CDR with the winning candidate concurrently dealing their election as Party Chairman with the 2nd placing candidate being elected as Vice President of the CDR and Vice Chairman of the NUP. The Party elects the Party Congress and Politburo Presidents and party General Secretary, who is the de facto Premier of the Cascadian Democratic Republic. This complex system allows for a collective leadership with lower level autonomy and a greater democratic structure for the party and the political landscape. This complex system is the basic for the nation's own brand of socialism which it dubs as "Cascadian socialism". The Party Congress meets once every three months following the Cascadian elections to confirm candidates to their respective offices and to update the party platform and plan policies for the coming legislative session.
Central Committee
The Central Committee is responsible for meeting every two to four weeks to ensure party policies are being carried out and conducted within the standards set by the Party Congress. The Central Committee is also responsible for filling remaining seats of the 5-man Politburo, not elected by the lower level blocs or by the popular vote. These posts being the offices of President of the Politburo and the General Secretary of the National Unity Party.
Politburo
The Politburo is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the party ensuring that policies are being carried out and conducted within the standards set by the Party Congress and decisions or revisions made between Congress by the Central Committee. The Politburo is the highest decision making organ in the Party and is considered to be the collective leadership of the Cascadian Democratic Republic.
