The Monarchy of Uzkukia (Welsh: Brenhiniaeth o Uzkukia), sometimes alternatively known as the Crown of Uzkukia, is the system which a hereditary sovereign rules as head of state and head of government of the Kingdom of Uzkukia. It is the highest national office and institution in Uzkukia, holding absolute power. Additionally the monarch sits as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
The monarch and their immediate family undertake a number of official, diplomatic, representative and ceremonial functions. The monarchy also serves as the chief executive of the state in addition to the chief legislator. As head of the royal family, the monarch directs the actions of the family when acting in a forward-facing role. Additionally, the Crown is seen as the primary representative of Uzkuk values and society both at home and abroad.
The monarch is always titled "king" or "queen" and entitled to the style of "majesty".
The current monarch is King Colin I, who has been king since 1 August 2024 - when Uzkukia was established.
History
The monarchy is the oldest national office and institution of Uzkukia. Its first mention was in the declaration of independence, which constituted the creating document of the Kingdom of Uzkukia. The declaration also de facto created the monarchy with the establishment of the kingdom. Consequently, the monarchy was established on 1 August 2024.
Upon the monarchy's creation, King Colin I assumed the throne and installed his house as the ruling house.
Royal Prerogative
The collective powers and functions of the monarchy are known as the Royal Prerogative. The powers are usually exercised at the monarch's discretion, however the Royal Household and Privy Council both provide support and advice to the monarch on the exercise of the royal prerogative.
Powers
The Crown was established on the basis of absolute monarchy based on divine right theory. The monarchy is absolute but seeks to be benevolent in the exercise of their powers, as well as keeping consistent with national culture and tradition as well as the religious values held by the royal family.
In addition to being head of state and government, the monarchy is seen as the sovereign which holds influence over the extent of their powers.
Functions
As head of state and government the duties and functions of the monarch include:
- Creating and amending legislation,
- Serving as chief executive,
- Setting the government agenda,
- Directing actions of the government,
- Implementing tax policy,
- Appointing all state officials,
- Accrediting and receiving diplomats,
- Head of the royal family,
- Selecting the heir apparent,
- Commander-in-chief of the armed forces,
- Representing the state,
- Ensuring national unity and stability,
- Granting national honours,
- Granting peerages,
In addition to their political and ceremonial roles, the monarch is also the sovereign of national orders.
Succession
Uzkuk succession laws outline that only the children of the reigning monarch are given preference in inheriting the throne but that members of the wider royal family may be selected to move up in the line of succession. The heir apparent is selected by the monarch, and is appointed to the office of Crown Prince. By convention, the crown prince is usually the eldest son of the reigning monarch however any royal can be selected to be heir. It is also expected that to succeed the throne, the successor should be a Roman Catholic.
After the appointment of a crown prince, the rest of the line of succession is based purely on primogeniture succession laws based on whom the heir apparent is.
The duties of the crown prince are determined by and devolved on them by the monarch. Additionally, the monarch can relieve the crown prince of his duties by means of a Royal Order.
The succession laws also stipulate that annually the line of succession should be published by the Royal Household.
