The Kingdom of Uzkukia (Welsh: Teyrnas Uzkukia), more commonly known as Uzkukia, is a self-declared sovereign state. It is classified as a micronation by external observers. Founded on 1 August 2024, the state is European in origin.

Uzkukia has been an absolute monarchy since its foundation. The government is highly centralised around the monarch and their court but it's customary for the monarch to hear suggestions from citizens. The current, and longest serving, monarch is King Colin I - who founded the kingdom. Since its foundation the kingdom has described itself as a sovereign Celtic, Christian state.

History

The original conception of Uzkukia dates back to March 2024. King Colin I, who founded Uzkukia, originally intended to establish Uzkukia as a presidential republic called the "Republic of Uzkukistan" but soon renamed it to "Uzkukland". However, Colin had a change of heart and decided not to establish the republic.

Towards the end of July 2024, the idea of starting a micronation came back to Colin but this time he decided to establish a monarchy instead of a republic. Consequently he decided to draw up the original ideas of the state. After settling on an absolutist system of government, Colin revived his original name ideas for the republic but adjusted it slightly to represent his new idea for a state.

On 1 August 2024, he wrote and ratified the declaration of independence. Doing this he established Uzkukia and its monarchy, in doing so he proclaimed himself King of Uzkukia.

Government

Uzkukia is a unitary state under an absolute monarchy, with the monarch as head of state and government. However, other institutions, such as the Royal Household and Privy Council, exist to aid the monarch in the execution of their duties.

Monarchy

The monarchy is the hereditary head of state and head of government of the kingdom. The monarch holds absolute power and is seen as the chief executive, "legislator-in-chief", and chief judge of the nation. Additionally the monarch is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

Due to the extensive power of the monarchy, the style of government in Uzkukia is dependent on the style of the reigning monarch.

The monarchy is hereditary, with only members of the ruling house being eligible to inherit the throne. The heir apparent to the throne is the Crown Prince who is appointed by the monarch. It is customary to appoint the monarch's eldest son as crown prince, however any of the monarch's children can be appointed heir apparent.

It is generally expected that the monarch practices Roman Catholicism and is fluent in at least one of the national languages.

The current monarch is King Colin I.

Privy Council

The privy council is the chief advisory body to the monarchy. They advise the monarch on the exercise of their powers, primarily the legislative and executive powers possessed by the monarch.

The monarch is the head of the council, and overall responsible for its administration but the Lord President of the Privy Council aids the monarch in doing this.

All members of the council are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the monarch, and are entitled to the style "The Right Honourable" (if not entitled to a higher one by grace of a title) and the post nominals "PC". Upon their appointment, all members are expected to swear an oath to the monarch.

Judiciary

Officially, no judiciary has been set up. However, due to the extent of the monarch's power they act as the chief national judge. In supporting them in this role, by convention the privy council is able to be used as a special court when a Royal Order proclaiming it as such is issued.

Military

The Uzkuk Armed Forces are the military forces of the state. The armed forces are organised into three branches: the Uzkuk Army, the Royal Uzkuk Navy, and the Royal Uzkuk Air Force. Each branch has a specific role in defending Uzkukia and conducting military operations.

The armed forces were founded on 1 August 2024 on the order of King Colin I. Upon their creation a Royal Order was issued which organised the basic structure of the armed forces as a whole, each branch and the levels of command in addition to the ranks of each branch.

The monarch is the commander-in-chief and classed as the supreme authority of the armed forces. They commission and appoint all officers, as well as warranting and appointing non-commissioned warrant officers. The Chief of the Defence Staff is the professional head of the armed forces and the senior-most uniformed military officer. They are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the monarch.

Each branch has their own chief of staff and command board.

Culture

Uzkuk culture takes heavy influence from both Welsh and Christian culture.

English and Welsh are the co-official languages of the state, and the national flag is inspired by the Welsh flag - bearing the same dragon and shade of green.

Christian culture and belief have an influence over Uzkuk culture and society. This is due to the fact that it is expected for the monarch to be Roman Catholic so religion has influence over the governing of the state and, consequently, national culture. While officially a secular state, Christianity is the de facto national religion.

The highest symbol of the state is the national flag, which is inspired by the Welsh flag. It was adopted on 12 August 2024. The monarch is also seen as a national symbol due to their position in Uzkuk society and their influence over national culture.

Geography

Since 10 August 2024, Uzkukia has laid claim to the uninhabited island Klein Curaçao. Due to the island being uninhabited the Uzkuk government is aiming to use the island for "national purposes" when the state is developed enough to be able to do so.

The island itself is 1.7 square kilometres and largely desertified. It also has some abandoned structures on it, such as a lighthouse, that the government hopes to restore.
