The Department of Defence is a ministerial position within the Chamber of Ministers that is responsible for the defence of the realm during peacetime and wartime. Despite having affiliation directly to the services of the armed forces, it is a civilian office. The department is headed by the Minister of Defence, an office that reports directly to the Lord Chancellor of Laskaridia and the King. The office is the only civilian position directly attached to the Defence Council, and presides over it when the sovereign and Chief of Defence staff are absent.
